The sorrow of separation in this world was so painful, but there were always those who would cross the vast river of stars, race over vast expanses of mountains and river, just for a tiny drop of sweetness.

It does not matter that fleeting time is always slyly substituting, that when you look back, the present moment will have become the past.

In this moment, it is the pleasant night on which the two stars meet, a tryst as perfect as a dream.

in a system where ambitious schemes and murderous plots are created, lovers being united under such deceit has to be one of my favorite tropes now 🧡

The kind of book that makes you re-think all the past 5-stars you've given to other books. One of the best stories I've read, I had to actively pace myself while reading so I didn't tear through the story too fast. In my opinion, the perfect blend of myserty, intrigue, romance.... Couldn't have asked for more from the sequel. Additional stories were fun and sweet, providing some background and extending the story a bit. I especially enjoyed the Huadian one, with a glimpse back to the earlier days of Yan Xiaohan & Fu Shen.

A word for the final short story: strange and unexpected, but sweet.
