This was an interesting picture book. The art work is excellent and was the main reason for me picking it up. While some of the text is questionable, I still found this enjoyable. I think this will be hard for some children to read and I think that this is more of an older kids book.

The art style is absolutely perfect for what this book is about. And while I think this is great way to introduce young readers to Mary Shelley and Frankenstein, I couldn't help but feel a bit let down. I was a little surprised by how little information there was about Mary and how quickly the story seemed to end. There were just a couple of pages on how Mary came up with the idea for the book and how popular the book became, but I thought there would be more information about Mary, so I was disappointed when there wasn't.

Loved the writing + the illustrations! A fun, spooky picture book bio that included only the best bits. <3

A part illustrated biography - with a focus on the creation of Shelley's famous text - and part picture book in some respects, Bailey, alongside Sardà’s incredible, mock-gothic illustrations, guides us through the writer's life; highlighting all the elements that may have inspired her along the way.

The text is wholly accessible to any fluent reader but it's aimed towards UKS2+ and Sardà’s digitally enhanced watercolours just suit the theme and matter of the biography so well. An inspiring story that I suspect, many writers will connect with and wonderful in demystifying some of the stories around the fabled text's creation.
