Selkies are a Girl's Best Friend by Molly Harper

I love Molly Harper. I love her blend of sweet and snarky.

That being said, the Mystic Bayou series is not my favorite. There are funny spots, but it comes across more often as glib rather than witty. And I think the books are too short. Everything feels a little too rushed. Insta-love, angst that doesn't have a real reason behind it, and a rushed suspense plot line.

The books feel a bit like cupcakes: enjoyable, but no substance behind the sweetness. But they're free as part of the Audible Escape package and are definitely worth the listen.

Cover: striking! What a gorgeous cover model to play Sonja.

Narrators: Amanda Ronconi is the very best part of this experience!

Hogwarts Sorting Hat: Sonja is a Slytherin. And I think Will is a Gryffindor.

Themes: Louisiana, magi/supernatural, small town, selkie

This volume was a little harder to get into than the last two but it did at least change up the formula a little bit in the plot structure.

It was nice to get to read more about Sonja and I liked her relationship with Will but honestly a lot of this one did feel a bit like filler and I did not enjoy Gillian being pregnant because that's just not my bag.

The new take on the legend of selkies was pretty cool though and that's the sort of thing I really enjoy about this kind of book, so that made it more worth the read.

Overall it wasn't a bad book and I did enjoy it, it just wasn't overwhelming.

Another good continuation in the Mystic Bayou series. Lots of supernatural characters, a bit of romance, and a sprinkling of mystery. There are always plenty of shenanigans going on in Mystic Bayou.

This is a light, easy read—nothing too deep. But I do enjoy the characters and worldbuilding.

## 📖 My Thoughts
I adore this series. The found family is amazing and is done so so well. I wasn't sure who would be good enough for Sonja but it was nice having the MMC as someone who was just kind. He wasn't necessarily as amazing but he was a really good person and what more can you really ask for. Sonja is just amazing and it was nice to see good family links outside the found family. Again I didn't see the plot twist coming but I wasn't really searching for it, I was happy along for the ride.

## 🌶️ Spice
Spice took a while to happen. It was more a trust building exercise rather than pure passion but I still enjoyed. Was not a main focus of the story.
