3.5 stars. I did like this book. Time travel always boggles my mind a bit. Even with the complexities of that, at times the book felt a tad simplistic, aimed at a younger audience than the main character (around 16 years old).

It's been ages since I read "Timepiece" ... another time travel novel. I don't remember too much about it, but just enough that a few things seemed a bit familiar. Even the CHRONOS name ... It also reminded me a bit of "The Missing" series, where kids go back in time to correct historical events.

The relationship between Kate and Trey did seem really fast. I wasn't quite sure I bought it.

It didn't have a completely cliff-hanger ending, but there were certainly a ton of things left open for a continuation of the series. I'll plan on continuing it ...

Sixteen-year-old Kate discovers that she carries a gene that allows her to time travel and that her grandmother is actually from the future, stuck in Kate's present, and trying desperately to stop a sinister religious organization from destroying the world. When time shifts and Kate loses her family in one awful moment, she has to travel back in time to try to set things right.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The time paradoxes were minimal and it's a well thought out and crafted story. Filled with likable characters, interesting issues and a healthy dose of action and adventure it was a fun read. I really liked the different characters and Kate as well. While Kate's relationship with Trey felt a trifle rushed, it was still an important aspect of the story and added that oh so popular dual love interest layer that today's YA seems riddled with. I admit I'm rooting for Kiernan, though I seriously doubt there's any way that particular relationship will work out. I will definitely be reading the second book whenever it comes out.

I wasn't sure I could get into this and then I really ended up liking it! It got a little confusing at times, but I powered through. Wish the next one was out!

I picked this book up as a fluke - I was able to get it free as an early release on Amazon Prime- after seeing it advertised on Goodreads. And I am certainly glad I did! This book was excellent and has everything - time travel, science fiction, romance, action, suspense, and family ties. Unlike a few of the other books I've read recently, I felt the central characters were fleshed out and likable, and the story was very easy to grab onto. I really didn't want to put it down.

I am thrilled that this is a series - but because his book just came out today, I have a feeling I will have quite a wait for book two! It is technically YA for those of you predisposed to care about that sort of categorization.

A super great read, and a new favorite!

3 stars or 4? This is a great start to this series and I will be reading more. I think I am having a hard time loving it because I keep comparing it to the Ruby Red Trilogy which is also a young adult time travel series. Timebound has a much more intricate plot than the Ruby Red books and lacks the humor of that series. I have to stop comparing because both are great in their own ways. I am in awe of any author that writes about time travel and keeps everything straight with the hops here and there and the changes in time that occur. I was kept on the edge of my seat while Kate was trying to escape the serial killer at the Chicago's World's Fair. Creepy. It will be fun to follow her through the next couple of books to see where she and her loved ones end up. Thanks, Chalene, for the recommendation!

What a great ride/read through time and again! I had a few issues while reading, but mostly enjoyed it and couldn't wait to get to the end. Full review to come.

I was really anticipating this book - the blurb sounded fantastic and I love time travel stories. While I did like it, I didn’t love it as much as I was expecting to, and I felt kind of underwhelmed by the whole thing.

I guess this is a case where my expectations were too high and just weren’t met. I was expecting a fascinating, fast-paced time travel adventure, and while I did think the concept of time travel in this book was really interesting (the idea of having a time-travel gene and such), the way it was presented caused the plot to drag for a majority of the book. Most of the information is dumped on the reader through conversations and some diary entries.

I liked Kate’s character, but I couldn’t really bring myself to care deeply about her. Some of her actions really threw me off - I thought it was strange and rather unrealistic that she would divulge her time-traveling secrets to her best friend AND to a boy that she doesn’t even know (not to mention the fact that they just accept what she tells them without question). And speaking of said boy...the romance was sweet but kind of bland, and I can totally see a dreaded love triangle developing in future books.

Where this book really shines is in the last quarter, when Kate finally makes the jump to 1893 Chicago. I thought this was the most interesting part of the story, with plenty of action and suspense.

Overall, I thought Timebound was an interesting time-travel debut, and it definitely shows promise. I’ll be keeping my eye out for the next one - hopefully the pacing will be better since all the backstory and time-travel explanations are out of the way.
