Read this series if you love;ย
โ€ข Witches and Faeย
โ€ข Magic and Spellsย
โ€ข Slow Burn Romanceย
โ€ข Dark and eerie atmosphericย
ย
Wicked Walking is the sequel to Lovely Dark and Deep, the 2nd book in Fallow Creek series.ย
The plot started out 2 weeks after the ending of the 1st book, with one problem solved another comes out when Cassandra (FMC) accidentally let something out from the other world and it's wreaking havoc in Cassandra's little town.ย
ย
I really like the writing style, it describes the action scenes and atmosphere with such details it feels like Iโ€™m in Fallow Creek and inside the creepy forests. It's so hard to put down because the plot intrigue me until the end accompany with such loveable characters.ย
ย
As for the romance, I'm so happy I finally got what I've been hoping to happen since the 1st book!ย
I hope we'll get more sweet and flirty scenes from our two main characters in the next book.

Not just some badass action scenes, it also has some emotional moments especially when entering Cassandraโ€™s thoughts. Sheโ€™s at war with herself because what she wants to do and what she needs to do is complete opposite.ย
This book is a lot more heart-breaking and the stakes are even higher compare to the first book.ย
ย
Overall, this is a great sequel and addition to the series. It ended with another cliff-hanger which makes me wish I have the third book ready to pick up right now!ย
Iโ€™m really looking forward to read the next book because I need some answers and I really want to know what happens next!ย

I received an advanced review copy for free from the author (Claudia Cain), and I am leaving this review voluntarily!

I thought book one was good. And I think this one was even better. It is written so well and I am captivated by this really creep story and all of the characters involved. I liked the progression of the initial plot and the expansion of ideas surrounding The Child. There were many super spooky moments with the possessions and lights flashing and things showing up in the dark. Itโ€™s a book that I felt like I needed some lights on to keep going.

I liked Cass a lot more in this book too. She still holds to her wants, and also strives to solve the problems before her. I LOVED that we got more Merich content (sub plot of romance that I am adoring). And I still love Theo. Thereโ€™s some good twists in here too that I was surprised by and have been wondering where in the world things will progress to next.

This has been a great urban fantasy series so far. Iโ€™m hopeful to possibly see new locations and characters be mixed in with the next book.

Overall audience notes:
- Urban Fantasy
- Language: a little
- Romance: kisses
- Violence: high
- Trigger/Content Warnings: death, mild gore and depictions of injury, mild body horror, mentions of suicide and depictions of anxietyย

๐‘ฏ๐’๐’๐’š ๐‘ฏ๐’†๐’๐’!!! I forgot how much I loved Claudia Cain's writing! ๐’‰๐’๐’˜?! I remember ๐‘ณ๐‘ถ๐‘ฝ๐‘ฐ๐‘ต๐‘ฎ the first book, giving it 5 stars, and stating it was one of my top reads of the year. But the love is ๐‘น๐‘ฌ๐‘จ๐‘ณ!

Not often is the second book as good as the first, but also ๐’ƒ๐’†๐’•๐’•๐’†๐’“!

Cain's writing is ๐’‘๐’‰๐’†๐’๐’๐’Ž๐’Š๐’๐’‚๐’, switching between "story narration" and the story itself. It reminds me of the writing style of The Night Circus, but instead of a circus, it's a creepy forest with a ๐’„๐’“๐’†๐’†๐’‘๐’š creature. It's The Falconer meets Stranger Things, meets Practical Magic with a touch of Amityville Horror.

You can ๐‘ญ๐‘ฌ๐‘ฌ๐‘ณ the story, the creep, and the characters. Just the way an amazing story should be.

How do I even tell you how much I ๐’๐’๐’—๐’† this book? ๐’•๐’‰๐’Š๐’”. ๐’ƒ๐’๐’๐’Œ. ๐’ƒ๐’“๐’๐’Œ๐’†. ๐’Ž๐’†.

๐‘ช๐’๐’‚๐’–๐’…๐’Š๐’‚! That ending!!! I knew it was coming at some point, but when they all started gathering....ย  ๐‘ฐ ๐‘ฒ๐‘ต๐‘ฌ๐‘พ you were about to break the last part of me. It all fit together ๐’”๐’ ๐’˜๐’†๐’๐’! Not to mention the hurt you inflicted on my heart not long before that. Honestly, my heart is ๐’”๐’•๐’Š๐’๐’ racing, and it's hard to ๐’ƒ๐’“๐’†๐’‚๐’•๐’‰๐’† after all that.

This book really had it ๐’‚๐’๐’ though. I loved, I laughed, I raged, I was at the edge of my seat while my heart beat out of my chest, I was completely creeped out (yet loved it), ๐’‚๐’๐’… ๐‘ฐ ๐’„๐’“๐’Š๐’†๐’….

The characters all have a special place in my heart and ๐‘ฐ ๐’๐’†๐’†๐’… ๐’Ž๐’๐’“๐’†! Seriously, every character is so well fleshed out, and it's hard not to fall in love with them. Especially Cass, Will, and ๐‘ด๐’†๐’“๐’Š๐’„๐’‰ ๐Ÿ–ค but really all of them, this story needed them ๐’‚๐’๐’. Every messed up/loving piece of them.

Your writing and storytelling truly ๐’‚๐’Ž๐’‚๐’›๐’†๐’” me. I ๐’Œ๐’๐’๐’˜ that this book, like the last, will be a ๐’•๐’๐’‘ ๐’“๐’†๐’‚๐’… of the year for me. There is no way around it!

๐’‚๐’๐’. ๐’•๐’‰๐’†. ๐’‡๐’–๐’„๐’Œ๐’Š๐’๐’ˆ. ๐’”๐’•๐’‚๐’“๐’”!

If I could only recommend one book this year to satisfy your inner dark side, it would without a doubt be book 2 of Cain's Fallows Creek series, Wicked Walking.

From the dark and vivid imagery, enchanting characters and the utterly creepy plot, Wicked Walking is the perfect blend of magic and paranormal horror.

The story picks up on the heels of Lovely, Dark and Deep (5โญ read) as Cassandra and her family are faced with a dark and otherworldly threat beyond anything they have ever faced before. With magic, body possession & some epic action scenes, I honestly have never been so encapsulated by every aspect of a story before!

Think...
Stranger Things / Charmed / and the darkness of The Chilling Adventures of Sabrina.

Sounds epic right??

This is definitely one for my thriller lovers who are open to something a little more intense, for what is at times terrifyingly gruesome. It had my pulse racing and my feet were itching to run (the end of chapter 12 ๐Ÿ˜ฑ). I also really enjoyed the element of a slow-burn romance that doesn't overshadow the main plot.

Seriously, Claudia Clain is a hidden gem who deserves so much more hype! Her writing is magic!
I devoured this book in what would have easily been a single sitting if only sleep did not get in the way. I'd even give it 6โญ if you'd accept it.

I have now also bought all three books in Claudia's earlier vampire series and can't wait to get stuck into those.

Support an indie author go and go grab the series. It's the perfect Halloween treat!

Aaaaahhhhhh! What a great sequel to Lovely, Dark and Deep! Second time around I love the characters just as much. Cain portrays who each character is to the reader so well. I usually have a hard time remembering things from one book to the next, but not this time. I remember everyoneโ€™s role, their personality traits, their quirks.

While reading Wicked Walking, I actually felt like I was going through what the characters were going through. The writing is so well done, and the journey explained with the right descriptors. I saw what the characters saw, I felt what they felt, I experienced all the things they experienced.ย

I cannot explain to you how much I want the third book lol. I want to know what happens, I want to know where this story is headed. So much happened in this book that I either did not anticipate or I did not anticipate until the next book. To me this puts Cain in a whole different category of authors because she is not afraid to write the hard stuff and she clearly is not afraid to throw in some surprises!

If you are looking for some Autumn/Halloween seasonal books add Lovely, Dark and Deep and Wicked Walking to that list. They donโ€™t have to be read at that time of year, but witches and other beings, you know???

Thank you SO much to Claudia Cain for sending me a gifted copy of this book! I hope others love it as much as I do!!!!
