I put this one off for last because I wasn’t sure how I felt about the second chance/maybe cheating/miscommunication tropes (which are my least favorite tropes) but I really liked it. The angst was so good but I could’ve done with a smidge more groveling.

I wasn't a big fan of the female mc in previous books. I just wasn't interested in her story.

The only reason I finished this book is for info about other characters so I can continue the series.

I did not like this FMC at all. Some terrible things happen to her but she also makes poor decision after poor decision and we’re supposed to blame that on her ADHD. Nope, that’s not how ADHD works. And it’s a very unfair assessment of people who have it in real life. It’s presented in a very simplistic manner when it’s actually far more complex.

Her bad decision making is all her own. She lies by omission, never gives a straight answer to a question choosing to instead respond with sarcasm. Mostly, this story is one big miscommunication trope. One conversation would have cleared up so much.

I started reading Forty and just made myself stop. I went back and read the majority of the preceding books in the Steel Bones series. I read Charge, Nickle, and Scrap mostly because they make up the close-knit brothers at the center of the stories. I really like these guys and their women. No one is perfect; they are seriously flawed humans, like most of us. Forty and Nevaeh are no exception. They are about as opposite as you can get, and that is why they work.

Their story could have been tragic; Nevaeh would not let that happen. I don't know if it was her ADHD, but she borders between manic and annoying to dazzling and delightful. Forty is borderline OCD and a bit of a grouch. There's a whole lot of hurt hidden away by both that manifests itself in anger and stupid actions. Eventually, everything comes to light, and they repair the fractures in their relationship.

All through this series, we have a strong storyline of a long-standing conflict with a history that goes back to when this crew was young. It's unresolved, and now I am waiting for more stories to keep this suspenseful mystery going. It's a great storyline that leaves you hanging while still getting a really lovely HEA from the author. I'm really enjoying this series, and I look forward to more.

A strong 4.25 star book

This is exactly the kind of book that I expect and adore from Cate C Wells.
It had the perfect amount of angst, love and mc vibes. This is one of my favourite book/couple in the series. I was smiling while reading this novel multiple times.

The second chance/ex lovers trope is great for angst.
Read the triggers because the fmc's family background was very bad.

I loved the mafia connection at the beginning and how lately the author has incorporated more lgbtq side characters (I would love a Bucky book, even if I don't think we will ever get one)

This book focuses mainly on the fmc, and the way she acted (she has adhd), her distract fullness, her carelessness and her strong spine (which ai adored) kind if reminded me of Joanna Wylde's Jessica (and the book we never got)
