Really captivating book covering my favorite magical sparkly warlock. Great start to a new trilogy.

I enjoyed this book a lot, but I’m just feeling a little underwhelmed….or maybe simply whelmed?? The vacation was cute, and I loved the bad guy reveal but it just felt like something is missing.

Meeting all of those characters I know and love once again. It’s a great feeling.

after reading the dark artifices trilogy, it’s hard to find the same level of intensity, writing and plot.
this book felt a bit too light-hearted and inconsequent for me, but i still love alec and magnus deeply.

I’m disappointed by how meh I felt about this. I love the characters we already know, but the plot seemed terribly easy to figure out and I didn’t seem to care much about it so it took me such a long time to finish. I’ll still read the sequel because I think it’ll set up for an interesting next book!

I fell in love with Cassandra Clare's The Mortal Instruments series and I could not get enough of Malec, so needless to say I was beyond thrilled to get a totally Malec storyline. The Red Scrolls of Magic is everything I had been hoping for in a Malec book -- their chemistry heats up the pages while their love for one another will leave you in a puddle of mush, and their witty banter will make readers literally LOL. Each character has plenty of what readers have loved about them from the beginning: Alec is brave and willing to do anything to protect those he loves, especially Magnus; Magnus uses humor to hide his pain but also to comfort the love of his life; there's a smidge of Izzy being the helpful little sister and a short scene where Jace is adorably clueless. There's enough action to move the plot forward rather quickly but it doesn't detract from all of the amazingly heartwarming scenes of Magnus and Alec exploring their new relationship and dealing with a world that doesn't accept them together regardless of their deep love. I cannot wait for the next book in the series!

Magnus is one of my favorite characters of all time and I adore him and Alec together. With that said, this book was just alright for me. I felt it was a bit predictable at times and let's be real, a lot of what kept me going through this book were those super cute Malec moments. I did get more invested by the end and it had a pretty solid cliff-hanger that I didn't see coming. I think what I also struggled with was that this book was cowritten. I could tell which author was writing which chapter and as a result, the book didn't flow very well for me.

A really good read for those who love Malec! Very funny and snarky and I felt really added to the character dynamics and added a whole new layer to what I know about the time frame of TMI though I do recommend if you are wanting to read this when reading the whole series to read it after TDA and Ghosts of the Shadow Market, because I felt you get more out of the small details and things that were big spoilers for the series.
