I don't think it's as clever as others found it — 100 pages in and the story was dragging, and I couldn't bring myself to read another 300 pages.

With tantalizing hints of the world of McMasters as a school that i wish there were more of, and a thrilling look at the three theses, Murder Your Employer makes the most of its fun premise.

LOVED this. it felt a little weird to listen to this while at work and i also didn’t care for neil patrick harris as a narrator, but otherwise this is the most charming book about murder i’ve ever experienced

Such a fun read. Its a unique story, with likeable characters, and do many clever puns! Keep in mind, this is not an easy nor quick read. The author uses an extensive and advanced vocabulary, I found myself having to look up several words! While I appreciate a good reading challenge, it did slow down my reading time. Though I think that only added to my appreciation of this book. I'd I've it 4.5 stars if I could, not a perfect 5 because it does get a little slow about 75% way through the book. Otherwise this is a really fun, witty and engaging read and I highly recommend it!

Part murder "mystery", part textbook. This book started off a little slow, but then it started picking up pace that by the time you're towards the end you're upset that the ride is over. The narrator is playful with it's banter considering the subject matter ("deletion" aka murder). The setting being a college that teaches its students on how to plan the perfect murder on a target most deserving (reread title) and in order to graduate they must delete their intended target, or the school will find the student and delete them in return. A little high-stakes. However, one crucial component was that the student must question if the world will be a better place without their target AND is the target beyond redemption. It gave the plot and character relationships that grey-complexity that left me wanting to sit down with characters to discuss. I will definitely be buying a special edition of this one.

If you don’t like: multiple POVs, changes between 1st/3rd person, journal type books with a narrator but that also jumps into “normal book telling.” - you won’t like this.

I’m also not sure I did? The writing is beautiful & descriptive, but ultimately can’t fix the fact this is just… wow a lot. Normally all of those things don’t bother me but at times it was hard keeping track of who you were following.

It also felt like in Ocean’s 11 where they explain the plan and it takes like 5 mins, but then draaaaaag it out for 400 pages. That’s this book. I couldn’t even be hyped about when they left the school… because it was like reading an uninteresting manual that doesn’t give you all the details.
