It’s remarkably difficult to review this book, because while the novel wrapping around the ideas inside this book was kind of flawed, and the writer was over-fond of metaphors that didn’t quite click for me, and some of the summarisations are wrong and in hindsight remarkably shallow.. but gracious me what a collection of thought!.. Absolutely priceless…

I can sit here and make conceited remarks as much as I like, but the truth is that I can’t imagine how differently my life and my personality and my interests and values might have turned out without many of the ideas I first encountered here, because of this novel. How many books can we say that about?

The history of philosophy adapted for an intelligent and curious teenager. Her name... Let it aside for now.

What I knew about philosophy would not cover more than a few pages. Am I wiser now? I am not sure, but I think I will have to find another route to knowledge because this has been a rocky path.

Is it a mystery during a philosophy class? Is it a philosophical conversation within a mystery? One thing is clear. If you want to read it, do. If you feel you "have to," don't.

"Athens was like a lazy cow, said Socrates, and he was a fly that was annoying her on her side to wake her up."

feel bad giving this such a low rating but it was just so annoying to read. had to force myself to finish this as fast as i did or else i knew it would be sitting unfinished for ages if i didn’t. thought it was interesting at times but the writing was just odd??? that’s the only way to describe it. also felt kind of repetitive at times. honestly feel like this would do much better as a nonfic book

It was an interesting idea, but I couldn't keep the various philosophies similarities and differences as straight as a 14 year old could. It may have been a better read with a class discussion to keep me on track.

Bro it literally read like a textbook - I wanted to finish this by the end of the year but I couldn’t.  This wasn’t as good as I wanted it to be - but maybe that’s an issue with the translation bc half the time they didn’t talk like real people - will keep it for reference tho
