This is the first book that I've read from Beverly Jenkins and I really enjoyed it. I've always been skeptical about historical romance novels as in the context of minorities as books tend to ignore history sometimes to make the books more palatable. However, Ms. Jenkins doesn't fall victim to this as history is present and relevant in her books. I went back and read up on a couple of points she raised which made this book doubly interesting.

I really enjoyed the lead couple; though by the end they were both a little too perfect for my tastes. The doctor lead was the weaker of the character but the feistiness and confidence of our heroine carried the book.

Overall, I enjoyed the book except for the last 20% where the plot faltered. The lead couple refreshingly declared their love for each other so there was little tension left in the plot. Despite enjoying seeing glimpses of history the focus seemed to be less on our leads and more on the history. It was lopsided as the leads take a significant back-seat. The wrap up of the mystery menace especially was so rushed that I finished with a slightly off taste. I did feel like skipping to the end but I refrained.

Nonetheless, I would still strongly recommend this. Plus, I liked the cover as the guy was hot so extra bonus points for that!

God I feel so bad because I've been DNFing adult romances left and right but I just wasn't enjoying it. I liked the single father aspect and Regan's relationship with Anna was cute, but otherwise I wasn't enjoying it. I am looking forward to Spring's book because I loved her!

Cute lighthearted romance with a strong willed woman in the lead.

Things I liked:
  • Pleasantly surprised by this! Regan was a wonderful mixture of soft and strong. From the synopsis, I was worried she would be a bit too badass for me. But I loved her character so much.
  • The communication between this couple was incredible. I absolutely loved the honesty and openness between them. So refreshing.
  • Regan & Anna were adorable. I loved watching them get to know each and see Anna come out of her shell.
Things I didn’t like:
  • Can’t think of anything.

This was so sweet. I love the way their romance began and how the accidental shooting made them question things between them. It was fun and the stakes weren’t as intense as some other Beverly Jenkins books.

Regan decided to become a mail order bride for the adventure. Then she ends up shooting her future husband before they are formally introduced in person. Once they work through the initial hiccup, love begins to bloom. The passion is there first. There were more than a few extra hiccups but they eventually get to their happily ever after.
I really enjoyed this book. It was the perfect end to a wonderful series.
