This is a middle grade audience book and in that I think it’s a good perspective for kids to learn about some of the things that other kids around them deal with. I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed most of the reading except when she would do the voices for adults in the community - I couldn’t handle her version.

The 11-year old main character, Addie, is amazingly astute and aware of her feelings in a way that doesn’t feel authentic but does help the reader understand what an autistic kid might be feeling. There are a lot of autistic traits that are introduced and discussed throughout the book - like masking, stimming, heightened senses, autistic burnout, sensory overload. One of my favorite parts of the book is when Addie explains that she doesn’t “have autism”. It’s not a disease that someone gets. It’s the way someone is - like if they are left or right handed. You wouldn’t say you have left-handedness. You just are - green eyed, right-handed, and autistic.
