This one had an interesting story but I got rather annoyed at how perfect Mrs. Jeffries is. She randomly knows all about life in Russia, the economy in America, etc. It was hard to keep from rolling my eyes. I also don't understand how Wiggins can even function; he's painfully stupid.

Emily brightwell's Mrs Jeffries series is peppered with some pleasantly quirky characters. The plot in this one involving seaces and medium is not an unusual device, but is spared being the same old same old because the staff diverts the investigation in different directions. Mrs Jeffries is a bit too knowledgeable about world affairs, and the inspector not worldly enough, given their respective stations, but it is an enjoyable series.

Abigail Hodges is a formidable woman, but she’s taken aback when she and her husband visit a medium who predicts a dark fate. Still she dismisses the prediction as stuff and nonsense and heads home alone. When a servant goes up to wake her for breakfast the next morning, she is dead – killed when she interrupted a burglar … or did she?
I enjoy this cozy mystery series set in Victorian London, and featuring Mrs Hepzibah Jeffries, housekeeper to Inspector Gerald Witherspoon, and her team of servants who all help solve the crimes. Of course the Inspector gets all the credit. It’s a fast read, full of colorful characters, and while I figured out the culprit long before even Mrs Jeffries, I still enjoyed watching her figure it out and gently coaxing the Inspector towards the correct solution to the mystery.

3.5 stars. It was the easiest to follow, just the right amount of characters, and the mystery was well set out. I liked this one the most out of the series so far, so adjusted my reviews for the other two.

Seems like Mrs Jeffries and her crew did a lot more work in this one than the inspector and it was tough to pull him in this time. But this series is a lot of fun to listen to in audiobook format.
