“There are few people whom I really love, and still fewer of whom I think well. The more I see of the world, the more am I dissatisfied with it; and every day confirms my belief of the inconsistency of all human characters, and of the little dependence that can be placed on the appearance of merit or sense.”
Yayyyyy!!! I finally read Austen’s book and I loved it!!
I am reading Pride and Prejudice for the first time and I haven’t seen the movie too since I was so reluctant that I will read first only then I will watch. It took me 2 days to get used to Austen’s writing. The vocabulary was so strong and I sometimes read the same paragraph more than twice initially. In-between I even felt like I should watch the movie first for better understanding. One of my friend actually encouraged me by saying that when Darcy comes you will swoon. I was so eager to meet him actually since so many said that their favorite couple is Lizzy and Darcy. Oh my god, maybe they are the first ever enemy to lover troupe. When I became comfortable in Austen’s writing I started loving the book. I learnt so many words actually which I never know that existed before. I am so glad that I read the book completely overcoming all my boredom in the starting.
So, if you want to explore Jane Austen’s books start with this book and it may be difficult at the beginning but it is a gem. I loved it so much. I will definitely pick her other books…

If you've never read Jane Austen, this is a great story with some very memorable characters. The heroine and her sister have delightful conversations, even though the way they look at others differs greatly. They become a lens through which Austen looks at character. Mr. Darcy, Mr. Wickham, Mr. Bingley, and his sisters are all scrutinized by the sisters. Austen works in several studies of human frailty, mostly centered on marriage. But there are other facets, too: idleness, judging prematurely and superficially, and a want of proper conduct. There's certainly a sense of parenting gone awry. As in so many of Austen's novels, even where there is joy in romance, there is an underlying melancholy that women's fates are so much dependent on the marriages they make. Austen's is a fascinating and authentic voice from the Regency period.

I'm not even sure how many times I've read this---maybe 4? But it's great to compare with the tv PBS series, adaptations, and movies.

This book is nearly perfect. If only Elizabeth's true love for Darcy began PRIOR TO SEEING HIS GIANT FUCKING MANSION. Other than that, a wonderful read.

I read it just because I hadn't. But I knew the story and was indifferent towards the book. It's a novel of gossip, but I suppose it's just how it was during those days.

This was my first time reading through a Jane Austen novel. It was awesome. I can't wait to read more of her works.
