a fantastic take on the shifter genre

I demolished this book. I love that it’s a post apocalyptic world she finds herself in and what a world it is! Rush is just grumpy and delicious. 10/10

I was pretty confused with the plot but the vibes, smut and romance were immaculate

A quarter of the way through the plot was just to go find this unmamed thing to "save the world" that the girl wsnt part of. The Rush is whiney and the third person thing is wierd. This should be a first person pov but the author chose for it to not be.

Update: I kept listening, she did eventually get better and by the end I liked her. Don’t give up, it gets better. I am on book 2 now, so far MC isn’t making my eye twitch with twit behaviour but it’s been close a couple times. I gave it another 4 because it got better but I take 1 away because I was emotionally hurting from holding in rage at a fictional character. Some would say that’s some pretty damn good writing!

I am ready to absolutely quit this stupid book!! Like seriously Clarke is an absolute IDIOT. Imagine you wake up in the future and life is nothing like you knew!! You have someone taking care of you but you are slightly annoyed at them but also want them! Then you go to a dangerous place and the only thing from you being discovered is a effin hood!!! Serious a hood! So guy you are annoyed with leaves you in your room so you don’t feel uncomfortable. Then you decide “imma go down to the tavern and make friends with with people. You make comments referring to….get this…EFFIN INSTAGRAM!! You would think that might be the enough for you to realize the danger but NOPE!! You will continue nose diving into absolute peril. I don’t know if I can finish this book! She’s giving some stranger a palm reading but breaking all the political laws!!! UGH it was good until then.

Clarke and Rush

This is my second read through. It was even better this time around. Clarke is such a great FMC. She's real, honest, sassy. Rush is sexy and stoic. Together they start the series to help save Elphyne.

This is the first time I've really wanted to rate something 3.5 stars. I found this through a booktok recommendation for people who loved The Witcher and spicy books (and specifically wanted more spice from ACOTAR haha). I was not expecting a combination of post-apocalyptic fantasy with time travel and fae. But it somehow all worked pretty well and I was hooked. There were parts that the chemistry seemed to die between the two MCs, the villain is kind of abstract/unbelievable - hoping that gets better in the next books - and there is A LOT happening in this plot but I'll keep reading the series to see where it goes.
Spoiler I'm still rolling my eyes over the beginning action scene when she ends up landing on the Welcome to Las Vegas sign. That a.) felt very forced and b.) thousands of years later and she just happens to land directly on a sign telling her where she is? Nope.
