There were things I liked about this one—the best friend is very funny, the dynamic between the heroine and her daughter, and between her and her grandparents—but I'm coming to wonder if I'm just not that into contemporaries when it comes to romance. That would be entirely due to my own idiosyncracies, of course, and not any fault of the genre or subgenre.

Zuallererst: es war ein wirklich süßes Buch, das muss ich wirklich sagen...
aber
Es hat mich einfach nicht so vom Hocker gehauen, wofür ich auch noch ein paar Gründe nennen werde

Ich hab mich sehr auf die Geschichte gefreut, weil es super interessant klang und mich der Klappentext einfach direkt gecatched hat:
Es geht um Jess, die von ihrer besten Freundin überredet wird, eine neue Datingapp auszuprobieren, welche verspricht, auf Basis von Genen und biologischer Kompatibilität den perfekten Partner finden zu können. Eigentlich vergisst Jess durch ihren etwas chaotischen Alltag völlig, dass sie die DNA-Probe überhaupt abgegeben hat, bis die App ihr plötzlich eine 98%-ige Übereinstimmung liefert und zwar mit dem Gründer der Firma. Jess lässt sich widerwillig (sie findet River nämlich alles andere als anziehend und charmant) darauf ein, ihr Match kennenzulernen...um der Wissenschaft willen. Und wir wissen doch alle, was dann passieren muss hehe

Alsoo wie gesagt: Die Geschichte an sich hat nicht zu viel versprochen und ich fands total interessant. Ich mocgte auch die Charaktere, sowohl die Protagonisten als auch die Nebenfiguren, superduper gerne. Es war sehr sehr süß. Die Beziehungen von Jess zu ihren Großeltern, ihrer besten Freundin und ihrer Tochter waren ganz toll.
Aber ich hab irgendwie von der Liebesgeschichte mehr erwartet. Alles ging suoerschnell, wurde gefühlt innerhalb von 10 Seiten von "ich find dich nervig und arrogant" zu "er ist so heiß, ich will ihn unbedingt" und ich habs irgendwie nicht so gecheckt... am Anfang kams mir so vor, als wäre da keinerlei Chemie, auch wenn River super sweet war. Und dann zack. Es wurde immer gesagt, wie gut sie sich finden, aber es war immer eher körperlich und das emotionale hab ich sehr wenig gefühlt. Ich bin auch wirklciv wirklich traurig, dass nicht auch die Sicht von River eingebracht wurde, seine Gedanken haben ein bisschen gefehlt :/

Dann gabs da auuch so ein paar kleine und größere Punkte, die mich gestört haben:
- Jess Charakter konnte ich nicht so greifen. Ich hab keine Ahnung, ob sie jetzt introvertiert oder extrovertiert, strukturiert oder chaotisch und soo sein sollte. Sie wurde gefühlt als 2 Personen beschrieben
- Jess ist Mama, was an sich kein Problem ist und Juno war ja mal sowas von zuckersüß und River mir Juno = ich bin geschmolzen...aber irgendwie hatte ich ein Problem damit, dass udn wie ein Kind involviert war, keine Ahnung
- es war manchmal ein bisschen random, es gab so ein paar Side Storys, die nur so halb erzählt wurden, das war störend für mich persönlich
- i dont get, warum, aber mir ist irgendwie unangenehm aufgefallen, wie oft Menschen auf ihre Figur/Gewichr/Größe reduziert oder zumindest mir entsprechenden Attributen beschrieben wurden, fand ich auch störend (aber weiß nicht, wieso es mir so aufgefallen ist + vielleichr liegt es auch an der Übersetzung)...warum muss ich wissen, dass die Kellnerin 'spindeldürr' ist und so weiter. Und warum wurde 3× beschrieben, wie River "mit seinem langen Zeigefinger" auf einen Knopf drückt...WHY?

nun jaa, ich bin vielleicht sehr kritisch, aber die Punkte haben mein Leseerlebnis schon beeinträchtigt. Außerdem muss ich sagen, dass ich zumindest die deutsche Übersetzung echr nicht so gut fand.

Also insgesamt ganz süß und cutsie, gut für zeischendurch und auch eher als Sommerbuch zu empfehlen. Auf Englisch kann ich es nicht beurteilen. Ich mochte die Charaktere fast die ganze Zeit, die Idee für den Plot war richtig gur, aber meine persönliche Einschätzung ist, dass das Potenzial der Geschichte (zb haters to lovers trope, Charakterentwicklung und -tiefe, etc) nicht ihr volles Potenzial entfalten konnten und das Buch wirklich noch vieeeel besser hätte sein können... bisschen schade, sber vielleicht liegt es auch einfach nur an mir und es ist für andere das perfekte Buch

As usual, Christina ATE!😭 Unhoneymooners is my favourite book so I’m not surprised with how quickly I got sucked it with my fellow Army’s talent😞💓

While, objectively, this book may not be the best candidate for five stars, it's getting them from me. I thought the characters were lovable, their flaws relatable, and the challenges they faced to be realistic. While I do wish there had been a few more scenes featuring just Jess and River getting to know each other/falling in love, the scenes we got really stole the show and sold their romance. Overall, it's a well-rounded story that hit harder for me because I happened to read it at just the right time, staying up until 2 in the morning because I just couldn't put it down.

I liked the book. It was about a single mom, that signed up for a dating app, thats based on DNA compatibility. It was not really a deep book and sometimes the sudden change of feelings/ falling in love was a bit fast, but it was a nice lighthearted romance with a happy ending. The characters were not annoying and were relatable.

i liked the premise of this and the chemistry withe the characters was good. i liked the way that there was no miscommunication trope but

i did not like the ending. the way river completely disappeared and then all the traumatic shit that happened near the end just got brushed over and they got back together after a 5 minute conversation. i also didn’t like that we didn’t get to know the real number just that it wasn’t 98 and above 90; it wasn’t cute just irritatingly ambiguous.

apart from those issues i liked the characters and i liked the pairing, they were cute.

This book was an enjoyable feel-good read, even if it was a bit predictable.

Overall, Jess and River were cute together and had great chemistry. The physical attraction was obviously there for them both, but I’m glad a bit of depth came through in their relationship, too - for example,

in River’s developing relationship with Jess’ daughter, Juno, as well as in scenes where Jess and River shared vulnerably about their fears, childhoods, and so on

. I only wish we could have had River’s POV too so we knew what he was thinking.

Speaking of River, his characterization felt a little all over the place for me, and I could have done without the focus on how perfect he was. I can't say for certain whether he was straight-up objectively perfect or if that was just the way Jess viewed him, since she was the narrator, but I hate it when characters are depicted as having no flaws or as having/being it all.

Anyway, aside from the romance, I really enjoyed the relationships Jess had with her daughter, as well as with the other supporting characters. Her mom was totally shitty, and I was (spoiler)

relieved when Jess finally cut her out of her life

, but Fizzy, Nana Jo and Pop were all great. I loved the evident care and love that existed between Jess and her grandparents, as well as the banter and support Jess had with Fizzy. I liked, too, how they all pushed Jess to let them help her, especially with Juno.

Jess grew flustered. “She’s my kid. I want to see her.”

“Of course you do,” Fizzy said, “but she’s Jo’s and Pop’s and mine, too. She and I had a blast tonight, and I wish I could see her more. But you act like asking for help is selfish…” (pg. 238)

For a romance novel, I appreciated that the authors touched on more complex issues, like family dynamics (especially with the challenges Jess faced as a single mom, as well as the dysfunctional relationship she had with her own mom) or the exploration of destiny versus choice: how much of our compatibility with others could be genetically encoded into our DNA vs how much intention, choice, hard work and commitment factor into the success of our relationships.
