The banter between characters is so fun and good, and I think the author clearly highlights things that are so appreciated in literature. Her writing clearly showcases consent and nuance, and I think it's really refreshing when it comes to communication in that way. There's some other miscommunication and other minorly irritating things, but it is a trilogy and I expect to see it cleared up in the future.

I think the magic hasn't been fleshed out much, but I think we'll see more of that in the rest of the trilogy.

I sorely underestimated this book going into it. I am feeling alot of emotions rn but the female rage in this book was delicious and the mmc was beautiful. The characters are amazing the world building is great. I had no idea this was part if an entire verse but once I've finished this trilogy I'm going back and reading everything.

I was captured by Sager’s work from the opening chapter! Kat, who is introduced as a highway robber with a fierce reputation, is struggling to keep her home together after the disappearance of her estranged husband. When a summons to the castle sees her fortune change, she is quickly swept up in court politics
and finds herself employed to spy on the visiting kingdom’s ambassador

Strange things begin to occur in the palace as the Queen is courted by several suitors from across the continent. Kat tries to investigate these weird events with the help of Bastian Marwood, the ambassador from Elfhame. Stranger still is the attraction between the two
and the guilt Kat harbours after having stolen an irreplaceable item from Bastian the night before her arrival at court

Games are played. Traps of sabotage are deployed and a heart is broken. To say I enjoyed the first instalment of the Shadows of Tenebris series is an understatement. Not only are we given a rich world but also a new Shadow Daddy to obsess over. Clare Sager has become a new ‘instant purchase’ author for me and I will hype her work to anyone who will listen.
