Despite this being a very sweet, easy to read book, I felt there was something missing.. but what? I couldn't put my finger on it!
Oliver was a loveable character, very quirky, and honestly, it was refreshing to read a story about a man battling with his problems in finding love and living his best life. The secondary characters were also well developed, and I adored the moment when Olivers mum was gifted a candle

I received this book from Amazon's First Reads for free. Like one of the prior reviewers I couldn't help but draw comparisons to "How Not to Die Alone." But apart from the obvious parallels of death-related jobs and a sort of bumbling awkwardness in the main characters, the plots are not very similar. I found this book to be a bit more on the serious side, although there were a few laughs. Like so many books I have read recently I would give it a solid 3.5, but lacking a half star option I am rounding up because it really is rather sweet.

It's a lovely story.
I was hoping that Oliver Clock would be an odd ball type of character. Someone who would make me laugh...like Sheldon Cooper. He strikes me as a very lonely guy and it's sad. Almost forty, he really hasn't had the chance to fulfill his own dreams. I feel that he spends more time appeasing his overbearing mother than living his own life. Caroline was not my favorite person. She comes across as being too self centered and snoopy. Edie is thoughtful and caring. She and Oliver are better suited for each other.
Having said all that, I don't think this book is worth re-reading. I wanted a laugh-out-loud book. This wasn't it. But this could very well be someone else's new favorite read.

Oliver is a sweet and funny main character you can’t help but like. Story felt a tiny bit predictable in some places but it was a nice, easy read and i enjoyed it
