Updated Review:

I gave this book a 5⭐️ rating.

“Her story. His story. The love story of Joey and Rory.”

I was given this book by a girl I babysit for and was a little weary on it since I’m not a huge nonfiction fan. I also didn’t really know much about this couple besides one song, Cheater Cheater, from my high school days.

I really enjoyed this book. If I’m honest this book is what started me on my own journey to learn more and become closer to God. Rory tells his own journey to God throughout this book and it just got me thinking and wanting a closer connection with my faith.

This book also made me look at my father in a new light. In one chapter Rory tells of his struggles being a parent and says that we are all just doing the best we can with what we have. That just hit me and made me appreciate all my father did for me as I was growing up. It also gave me a better outlook on how I parent my own kids and helped me not be as hard on myself during the difficult days of raising a toddler.

I didn't just love this book. I loved this book. It's moving. This book isn't just a biography of Rory Feek's life. It's the story of a true love, that will last beyond death. A love that is strong and unbreakable no matter the circumstance. It is a book that left me smiling, and left me with tears. This is a book that will be with me forever and I will turn to it many times over.

As a woman who is married to her best friend, I couldn't imagine going through what Rory did with Joey. I wouldn't be able to stay strong and move on. It would be too heart shattering, in my opinion. But, through reading Rory's story, I know I can do it. I know I can remember the good things, the fun times, the inspiring moments that my best friend left me with. Rory's story is filled with hope and faith. The way he talks about Joey is incredibly moving and I loved feeling a part of his life, if just for a little bit.

Reading this book, however, opened new feelings for me! I followed this story closely, especially since my husband knew Joey and Rory somewhat for a time, having bounced at the Longbranch in Raleigh, NC where a lot of country singers got their start. I followed the singers' story, how Joey was battling her cancer but determined to live life a certain way. I followed the pictures of their beautiful family and sweet baby girl! I was utterly devastated when I read of Joey's death, and sweet little Indie with out a mama! Oh how my heart ached for them all. But, the words that Rory penned in this book truly helped me to see life in a new way. Truly inspiring!

I highly recommend this book to all with 5 stars and nothing less. It's a story of one man's journey with the love of his life and their struggles with battling her terminal cancer. It's a story of one man's faith in God. It's a story that is truly amazing and you will definitely need a few tissues as you read through these beautifully written pages. This review was originally posted on Cafinated Reads

I love the music and story of Joey and Rory, but this book was not good. The writing was lacking coherence and Rory did not deep dive into any aspect of his life. It was a cursory glance at ~50 years of life. I could feel that he was too ashamed of his past to really dive in and tell any details, so the book his a collection of half told stories. By the time he meets Joey and tells the story of their life together, you’re halfway though the book. Their music career together is but a paragraph in between sharing troublesome stories about how if you tithe you’ll become rich and talking about Joey wanted nothing more than to serve him as god intends. I almost gave up on listening to the book at this point, but continued on in hopes that the book would get better. Instead, The disappointment continued through the final paragraphs where he again discounts modern medicine and essentially says homeopathic medicine could’ve saved his wife because the big business of pharmaceuticals don’t have the patient’s best interest.

Wholly disappointed in every aspect.

While some celebrity memoirs are fluffy and cute, this one feels like a soul laid bare. I'm not going to lie...I shed a few tears.

2021 Reread: I loved this book all over agin! Of course I cried at the end. I loved Joey+Rory from the beginning of their career and I followed Joey’s cancer battle. I was devastated when she passed away.

Amazing book! It's great to read about Rory's past plus his life with Joey and her battle with cancer. I highly recommend this to all fans of Joey + Rory.

I was lucky and happy to have won this book in a reader give-away. I'm so glad I did. Rory opens up his heart and life to you in these pages, sharing his innermost joys and pains. He talks about his relationship with Joey and their journey through her cancer and eventual death. Through it all, he did not lose faith in God. A well written, poignant story that you won't be able to put down.

This was FANTASTIC. Sad? Yes. But also so moving that you will think differently of your life and hopefully make changes for the better. I listened to this book on Audible. I HIGHLY recommend this format because Rory Feek is narrating the book and I could hear the emotion in his voice. I LOVE it when authors read their own books. I think everyone should read this.

3.5/5 stars for this Autobiography
Very religion based
I felt like there could have been so much more to the story! Each chapter you got to dip your toe in, and I just wanted more
Still a good read if you enjoyed their story/music

I saw Joey + Rory for the first (and last) time at a Brooks and Dunn concert many years ago and really enjoyed them. I was sad to hear about Joey's passing a few years ago. I enjoyed listening to their life and love story.
