Harper Marigny has had a whirlwind couple of years. Married at 17 to Antoine, a centuries old vampire, her life has taken several wild turns as they try to defeat Keziah. With their circle of friends at their side, Harper and Antoine are about to embark on their biggest adventure yet...parenthood. Yet, even as they rejoice in the pregnancy they know the dangerous their twins will face. To protect them, Harper must decide to truly learn the meaning of always. But turning mean a loss of her humanity? Will she become more powerful? And if she does, will she lose it all?

This book was just incredible. The whole book is like a deep breath in as Harper seems to be an observer of the world around her as the final days of her pregnancy play out. Her journey in this book is palpable. You can feel all the uncertainty and doubt. I also love the backstory we get on Keziah and the deepening of all the lore. I can't wait to read the next one, but I wish it wasn't the last! I love this series!

Blue Lilies is the penultimate book in the Nightgarden Saga, and as happy as I always am to have a new book in the series to read, each book also makes me a little sad as the end of the series draws ever nearer.

There is a lot of information to take in at the start of this book, before the story really gets going, but it was so interesting that it didn’t just feel like an information dump. In fact, I found it so fascinating that it left me wanting more. Aside from the characters, who I think you all already know I adore, one of my favourite things about this series is the way Lucy Holden has included so much from cultures that I knew next to nothing about, and how she has managed to intertwine different mythologies so beautifully.

Where Dusky Dahlia is my favourite book in terms of the depths of emotion, Blue Lilies is perhaps the most exciting. I was completely gripped as the story built and built to the dramatic events that were coming and I devoured this book in a matter of hours. I don’t think I have ever been more glad that I already had a book’s sequel ready to read as I was when I finished Blue Lilies! Watch this space for more on that book coming soon.

"But we cannot return to what we were, Keziah. None of us can. We can only take what we are and accept it, then transform and become stronger. If we can’t face our true selves, we weaken, be come less, rather than more."

So much happens in Blue Lilies and you won't be ready for any of it. I sure wasn't. The entire thing almost feels like a fever dream. The storm has finally arrived. It hits the ground running so fast that even Harper, herself, is confused by it all. She thought this was the path she wanted. The path she had chosen. But, now everything seems lost.

The lore in Blue Lilies goes deeper than ever before. Sometimes I had a hard time following along because we've moved past the local lore to one that expands even further back. Back to the beginning. Back to when everything started. Back to how Keziah came to to be. But, finally, everything is starting to come together. It's the beginning of the end. Everything has led to this moment. I give major props to Paula Constant for the absolute fascinating research job she had to have done for this story.

And now on to Night Shade. Which is sure to be an explosive fireworks-over-the-river worthy finale.
