If I actually watched the Clone Wars show, I'd probably dislike this book. Just telling you that right now. I tried to watch it but I just couldn't get into it... I wish I could, but there is just something off about it.

I did like the original Clone Wars miniseries.

So, bear in mind that I'm writing this from a bit of a bias standpoint.

I liked Quinlan Vos - I liked his character and I liked that his story was a bit of a foreshadowing in terms of Anakin and what one could do for love. As for Ventress, I loved that her story was a forshadowing of Vader and what one can do for love.

The most confusing part I'm going to put behind a cut:

Spoiler So, yellow eyes is now a legit thing and that when someone turns to the dark side their eyes go yellow? Or do their eyes only go yellow in the beginning? Or do they only go yellow when you got a lot of pent up anger? I don't get it... Another thing I didn't get was that it wasn't until AFTER everything and in a horribly rushed chapter we find out that Quinlan was planning on bringing down Sidious and Dooku. REALLY NOW? I was legit thinking that he was gone to the dark side and was really, seriously power driven and it wasn't until having Assjj's dead body in front of him - and her dying for love - did it make him come back from his total overwhelming power trip.

Overall, I enjoyed it and I would have liked to see what the episode would have been... but I'm sure if I saw the show I'd dislike this book.

honestly this book just made me angry. if you've got any respect for ventress's character, I certainly wouldn't read it. the ending is terrible, and the writing isn't great along the way. 🌠

Slow to start.  By chapter 7 I was invested.  That pace and intrigue grows, and the book becomes an entertaining read.

This was a good story but needed a different author to give it justice. It's basically a romance but it didn't resonate emotionally.

I couldn’t binge SW without going to the library like the old days to grab one of the recent EU novels. This one continues the Asajj Ventress arc that was cut from the final Clone Wars seasons, and I’m ambivalent about the course of events. But it looks like I chose the perfect time to read it because the final season of The Bad Batch will address things that annoyed me about the ending.
