DNF AT 55%. I was really surprised that this was marketed as a slow burn from a reviewer because it’s 250 odd pages. The characters are cute but I got really confused at the dating set-up—a bunch of information was shoved at me and things would happen but the explanation wouldn’t be until some time later (like the tree).

I wish there was some build up between Indigo and Elias—a lot of it just happened really fast and I wasn’t sure why this or that had happened.

Not bad writing, but a plot that left a very confused me.

First off, thank you so much to Maeve for sending me an ARC! I cannot imagine what it’s like to publish a book at
18 years old, so proud of you!

I was lucky enough to have been sent an ARC, and I’m extremely grateful for the opportunity because this was a fantastic book!

It had me giggling, it had me blushing, then it had me crying. I honestly could not have predicted any part of the story, so many things took me by surprise, especially the major plot twist 3/4 through the book. I was sobbing, I didn’t see it coming and it broke me.

I really enjoyed this book, I love grumpy sunshine but I especially love it more when it’s the girl who’s grumpy and the guy who’s the sunshine.

Indigo is a sarcastic, gloomy girl who considers herself an outcast. She’s been through some traumatic shit with her family (her parents are awful) and she befriends a young girl called Olivia (who is an adorable ray of sunshine). She begins fake dating Elias, Olivia’s brother, and the dynamic between them two is comical and heart warming. He brought her out of her shell and their relationship developed into something so adorable.

Loved it! Can’t wait for more of Maeve’s books!

the writing is AWFUL, you hear me, just awful!!! the main character has no depth, shes fucking boring as is the love interest. they share no chemistry, not with each other and not with anyone else. i tried to get through but i felt like my brain was about to fry with how stupid these characters were and the terrible writing.

... I really have to stop listening to book recommendations based on instagram reels. First of all the book sypnopsis? Do I have to say anything. I mean it wasn't a BAD BOOK, but I wasn't really addicted to it or anything, and there wasn't any twists, just y'know the bomb shell at the end. And I feel like that was really really random ;-; The writing was okay, I mean not great, but this is just my opinion sooooo...

Elias you're great, but you're nowhere near my bookboyfriends T - T get good.
