This is an excellent and informative book, that is correct in assuming most readers will be virtually clueless about British Law systems and how they work going in. I felt woefully misinformed as I went on listening, but am now more than glad that I did because this book is accessible, entertaining and very educational.

If you’ve ever suspected that barristers look down their noses at ordinary folk : you’re right, they do. Although the Secret Barrister sneers at council tenants and their ‘disorganised lives’, s/he does have some very compelling and important things to say about the shortcomings in the English justice system. This is a worthwhile book – I just wish the relentless class stereotyping had been left out.

An informative look at the criminal justice system here in the UK as told by a criminal barrister. The book is very well researched but quite detail heavy. I liked the addition of the anecdotes and wish there were more dotted throughout to make it easier to digest. The chapters were long and wordy but I enjoyed hearing more about a system that I thought I was more knowledgeable about than I am.
