Loved this. He seemed the most human of political leaders.

I wanted to like this book; I wanted to love it! I love Joe Biden and wish he would have run for POTUS. But I expected this to be about his son, his relationship with is son, and his son's illness. That is all weaved through, but a lot is about his political work as VP during the time of his son's illness.

The writing is competent enough but nothing to wow anybody. It is heartfelt, just not what I was expecting.

Such a beautiful book about a friendship (Biden and Obama), the love between a father and son (Biden and his son, Beau, who died of brain cancer), and the love within the Biden family. Biden read this book, and his emotion can still be heard as he shares the agonizing pain of his son's illness, the support and friendship he had in Obama, and the things family and friends did in support of his family. It's a tragic, but beautiful story.

I've always really liked and respected Joe Biden, but after reading this book I have a whole new love and admiration for him. A very good, honest and sincere person who I sorely wish was currently in the Whitehouse.

Joe provided us such a lucid, real, and heartfelt account of what he and his family had gone through after losing Beau, all in the midst of such a period of intense political portent. No matter your politics or previous feelings toward the man, you can't really help but want to shake Joe's hand and give him a hug after reading this. Cancer is one of the cruelest crucibles a family can go through, and to read how the Bidens fought that fight with such unity and grace - even in the final tragedy of Beau's passing - is inspiring. Thanks for sharing this with us all, ol' Uncle Joe. I wish you and yours nothing but the best.

Fast paced and intimate, a must read for election year. This is a poignant portrayal of loss and leadership braided together during the final years of Biden's son's life and Joe's time as Vice President. It would be hard to read this book and not want to join the circle of love evident in the Biden family or to not feel confidence in the integrity and leadership of Joe Biden.
