I really enjoyed this book, it just wasn't what I was expecting. I was hoping for a funny and sarcastic novel that emphasized on the horrible likeness of bullying and it's theme was self discovery. Instead I get romance and a love triangle. I still enjoyed this book and the romance was cute, it just didn't reach my expectations.

Every group of friends has one. A DUFF, that is. Ya know, the ugly friend everyone takes pity on. The wing-(wo)man of the group. Of course Bianca knows that's her, but she does not appreciate Man-whore Wesley to tell her so. In fact, she just doesn't appreciate man-whore Wesley. Her home life is falling into shambles and she can't attract the attention of the guy she likes. Man-whore Wesley makes a very good distraction. She really does not appreciate man-whore Wesley... or does she?

This book is so full of cliches, I could have thrown up...but I loved it. I don't know, it's not what I would typically reach for. I know in my heart of hearts that even after reading, I wouldn't have liked this book. I can't quite put my finger on it, but this book had some charm. Honestly the character growth was pathetic when there was any, and the plot was as simple as can be. I don't know what made this story stand out from the hundreds of other YA contemporaries that follow this formula. I think what it really comes down to is Bianca's voice. She was annoying, yet absolutely genuine. It was oddly refreshing. This novel is exactly what I would define as a "crack novel." There's nothing outstanding about it, but it was outstanding and addictive.

I'm writing this bleary-eyed because I was up until 4 in the morning reading this book; I literally could not put it down until it was finished.

Keplinger's voice is so searingly authentic and her characters jump off the page with their dimensionality. I think every girl and woman will relate to the issues brought up; it certainly hit home with me.

I know if I'm ever struggling to remember what being in high school was really like, this is the book to pick up.

Read it out of pure curiosity (I like to see what changes are made when books are adapted into movies).

Taking out the character of her father was a smart choice. His character was the weakest part - I don't think that their relationship would be able to come back from the book events.
Spoileri.e. him physically abusing her, and his issues with alcohol. I get that the author wanted things to get wrapped up at the end, but him saying "I'll get back on the wagon! Also sorry I hit you!" and going to AA meetings doesn't mean this is going to end up OK.
