An amazing start to, what I hope to be, an amazing saga.

When I started this book, I knew that Chewie dies at some point, but I didn’t know that this was where it happens. I was not emotionally prepared for it when it happened in this book. Which in a way that is the point

I've been beating this dead horse since 2014, but I'll say it again: Disney appropriating Star Wars and retconning the EU was probably the worst thing the franchise has experienced. Compare Abrams and Johnson killing off old characters for shock value with this. Not only is Chewie's death actually impactful, but it actually serves a purpose beyond having Chuck Wendig lookalikes leave a five star review on Vice . The EU actually has a basic respect for its source material.

Another great thing about the EU is, as evidenced by this, is that its quality is significantly higher than other licensed spinoffs, matching, and in my opinion surpassing, its source material. It doesn't feel like a spinoff novel, it feels like a logical continuation of the same work, just handed off to another team of writers. In addition to respecting its source material, Vector Prime also has a healthy amount of respect for itself, and so, I hope, does the rest of NJO

This is a great continuation of the series, expanding the Star Wars universe beyond just battles with the fragmented Empire. This introduces a new threat, starts someone down the path to the Dark Side, and ends in a terrible tragedy. This is a personal book for many, and I'm excited to move onto the next.

This is by far my least favorite of all the star wars series.

It wasn't terrible, but I had some trouble following what was going on. Things just kept happening randomly, and I thought it was disappointing how little time was spent on the new alien antagonists, because they were easily the best part.

It was alright. It had the typical Skywalker and Solo family save the world theme in it. A couple of sad moments. The YV were a nice polar opposite of the Force.

Decent read. I debating on giving it 1-star for Chewie’s death, which absolutely ruined me when I read this as a kid. One of my favorite series though.
