Not something I'd usually pick up. Loved the descriptions of the Scottish landscape and the references to folklore. Did get a bit confusing at times but overall a really enjoyable read!

The atmosphere was captivating, the small closed off Scottish Island submerged in its own superstitions was beautiful. The entire mood of the story was unique.

I love reading about motherhood as a concept and I felt like a lot of the time the author was trying to place this as a central theme, but it felt lacking to me. Liv is presented as this struggling, but caring single mother who is going through her own issues. Still... how the hell did she not keep better track of Saffy, how did she let things get so far with Luna before snapping to her senses, why was she so lax about her wellbeing when she had children that needed her.

Plot wise, I didn't know what this was going in. I took the title at face value and just accepted that this was about witches. I'm still not quite sure what happened here. There was the suggestion of witches, but wait no the witches weren't real but there is this magical tunnel under the lighthouse that can take you through time?! Also the constant time shifts left me a little confused about some things.

I still enjoyed this, yet just can't muster the saw love that a lot of people have for this.

“We form stories about our lives to create meaning out of them – without meaning, they feel shapeless, and without purpose. When something lies beyond the realm of meaning, it’s terrifying.”

The Lighthouse Witches was an eerie and haunting tale that gripped me instantly. It made me wonder whether I need to add more mysterious thrillers to my TBR.

The story was told through different characters at different times. This helped make the mystery more intriguing and it kept the reader guessing. The characters were flawed and although I wasn’t sure I necessarily liked them all, they felt like real people (with some bad decision making skills). This definitely gave me a few moments of “do I actually like this book?” whilst reading, but whenever I began to doubt, I was quickly drawn back into the mystery. I have to mention that I really liked how the ending turned out. I did not see it coming at all!

All in all a great reading experience and a perfect atmospheric read for dark autumn nights. I will definitely be picking up more books by this author in the future.

Im so glad I was in a car half of the day to finish this book, I wouldn’t be able to put it down if I had to. I have no words really, I kinda loved everything about this book. When everything began to come together I thought I was going to explode. I had to make audible sounds to get my excitement out because omg this book was so amazing.
