3.75

SpoilerI rated the first book, Hunted, 3.5, because of the power imbalance in Caia and Lucien’s relationship. I’m rating this one a 3.75 because while the power imbalance is solved by her being older and having a more important role in the coven than him, I still felt like their relationship could have had more development. They spend most of the book avoiding each other because both of their prides keep them from communicating to each other, and Lucien in particular makes some really boneheaded decisions. Then, when Marion finally slaps some sense into him and he goes to Caia to make things right, he basically just tells her he loves her and everything between them is fixed. No groveling, no deep talking things out—they just decide things are okay and they immediately start acting madly in love. It’s kind of addressed when Caia asks Lucien if them he ever considered their love unreal misuse they’re fated mates, but I felt like there should have been more development between these two.

I do think this is a thrilling continuation of the first book with interesting twists, and I can’t wait to see how everything plays out it in “Ascended.”

Oh boy, this book was full of angst and heartache! :(

But don't be fooled! It still is a great book and an amazing continuation to an awesome series. I totally recommend you to read it!

After having the shock of her life, finding out her true heritage (she's half-lykan and half-magik), Caia Ribeiro is caught in the middle of an ancient war, torn between her loyalty toward the Daylights and the surprising knowledge that she now has about the minds of the Midnights.

You won't believe the twists and turns this book has until you've read it!
I was once more amazed by Caia's strength, will and the depth of her emotions.
She suffered so much and, still, she never backed down and never gave up on what she thought was the right thing to do.
I was particularly touched by the pain she felt the entire time over Lucien. :'(
Gosh, but the man could be really thickheaded! :S
It was really difficult for her to see him all cold and untouchable and then, all warm towards Rose. And he had the nerve to be angry with her!
Didn't he see that she was pulling away because she was hurt? Because she loves him and she thought that he had turned his back on her and had a thing with Rose? :(

But you know what? Even acting like that, I loved to see them together! I loved to see all that angst, hurt and sexual tension!
You could tell that they were both suffering, wanting to break the wall of ice standing between them, but they didn't know how to do it! The love between them was obvious but because they were both idiots, neither saw it!
If only they had forgotten their pride earlier, they wouldn't have suffered so. *sigh*
But I am happy that they are finally happily together, as I wanted them to be! +.+
*sigh* My heart is so much lighter!

The end of the book really worried me. I hope that Caia doesn't suffer like Jaeden suffered at Ethan's hands!

One more thing I need to talk about - I really loved how Samantha brought Jaeden and Ryder's story!
I am so glad that she is finally free of her torment. And now she has Ryder, who is such a nice guy!

Looking forward to know more about the gang! :)

Caia and Lucien are constantly being pushed further apart, by both inside and unknown forces. As the trace grows stronger for Caia, allowing her to connect with those of the Midnight coven, she starts to doubt everything she has been told about their ancient war. Jaeden left the pack soon after she was rescued from Ethan, the now deceased head of the Midnight coven. While running away, she became good friends with Reuben, and his group of vampire rogue hunters. The two of them turn out to be really good friends, and when Ryder is sent to retrieve her, it's no surprise that Reuben seeks her out. Ryder is extremely jealous of their relationship, especially since he is just now realizing that she may be his mate. While at the center to stop the Midnight's attack on another pack, Caia and Lucien are learning more about how things are at the top. Marita, the head of their coven is determined to keep Caia on at the center where she can be more useful to her.

***Spoilers***
Marita's plans to keep Caia with her almost work to push Caia and Lucien away from one another. Marita brings in one of Luciens ex-lovers, and the two of them seem to pick up exactly where they left off. Caia is crushed, but doesn't allow herself to dwell with so many things happening. When she feels her trace, alerting her to the fact that their is a Midnight magik in the Daylights headquarters, she asks about her. She can feel that Laila isn't a threat, that she was truly seeking asylum with the Daylight coven. Laila's attitude on reinforces what Caia is feeling from others of their group. The fact that not only are the Daylight coven against the way, but a majority of the Midnight coven no longer see the reason in fighting. While at the center, Caia follows a strangely acting Marita into a secret underground lab. There she finds evidence that Marita is not only holding small lykan children hostage, but is using them to experiment on in her attempt to create a super army. She finds Vil, the magik who brought Laila to the center, and the two of them break her out. She sends them on ahead to Ryder until she returns to the pack. Once Lucian and Caia pull their heads out of their asses, and both figure out that they belong together she confides in him all that she has found. They return to the pack for what Marita is told is only a few days. There they confirm with the others Caia's theories, and her plans to challenge Marita as head of the Daylight coven. Most agree with her plans, but there are several who think she is crazy. Caia approaches the council with her plans, and they send in a spy to determine if the lab is really there, with the promise to get back to her in a few days. At the end of the book, Marion shows up to tell Caia that the center is in chaos, Marita found out there were spies in the council and has removed them all from duty. They don't let on to Mario what is really going on, but plan to meet with the others to discuss their options. Before they even leave, Caia is kidnapped, and wakes up to find the regent of the Midnight coven, and his right hand, who turns out to be Reuben.

Enjoy following this story! Felt like some of the conversations were a bit unnatural. But I will still be coming back to find out how the whole thing works out.

Awesome series! And I'm happy to say this is one of the only sequels I've read that hasn't disappointed! So awesome!

Loved it! It wasn't as good as the first book but I enjoyed it nevertheless. I loved Jaeden's and Ryder's storyline, and the ending! I'm really excited for the last book!

Adored this series, is seriously a must read. As it's now my second favourite series after Tiger's Curse.
