It’s an action packed, fast paced, page turner. I felt like the writing style matched this as well. It is a pretty outlandish story, but an entertaining read.

This twisty, turny thriller was made extra fun by familiar settings, as Lisa Scottoline is a native Philadelphian who also loves the Delaware Shore. There were several twists and plot developments that I genuinely didn't see coming. I could see this book being made into a really fun limited series.

I liked the writing style, the subject matter, and there were a couple of surprises in the book, but it was very contrived throughout. Jason gets away from a mobster who then shows up later & kills Jason’s enemy, the three men who were Dom’s friends reminded me of a “Grumpy Old Men” schtick, of course there was a dirty FBI agent & of course it was the one the author didn’t want you to suspect but did suspect because it was so obvious, and Lucinda… can there be a more irritating character? They’re in witness protection and she just had to check Facebook, then there was her affair. Oh, and Flossie finding their dog & returning him to them? I can’t. It was just irritating.

This was well paced and propulsive, but it was really hard to look past the one-dimensional characters and increasingly unbelievable plot.

Actual rating 3.5 stars One night, driving home his family home after his daughter’s lacrosse game, Jason Bennett and his family find their lives hit with a flash of violence and sent into a tailspin of conspiracy. Now in the sights of a drug-trafficking organization, the Bennetts are taken into witness protection. But WITSEC is meant for criminal informers not families and following procedure is pulling what is left of Jason’s family apart at the seams.

Suspend rationality and just go with the story. That is what I told myself. I wanted a tale that would have me whipping through pages and eager to find out what happens next. This one delivered that. Realistic? Hell no. But I got my page-turner and I got a heavy dose of “you think you know what is coming but you really don’t” plotline. Timing is everything and this one was timed perfectly for me.

3.5 - I didn’t hate this book but…it had a lot of potential and fell short. After finishing, I did read the reviews and agree with a lot of them. I did finish to see what happened, but the last half of the book was a bit over the top, in addition to telling me what to think

Absolutely loved this book. Had me hooked from the start, although a very sad start. Read it in a day because I couldn’t put it down. Family crime/thriller at its best
