I wanted to like this way more than I did. I am very much a fan of dystopian novels, but this one just wasn't it for me. I dragged on forever, and the repetition added nothing for me. BIG BROTHER, BIG BROTHER, BIG BROTHER. WE. GET. IT.

I know this is a classic, and so we aren't supposed to not like it, but I simply did not enjoy this. I forced myself to power through it. I too, was being tortured by big brother.

By the time any real action begins, the book is at it's end. Wasn't for me, wouldn't recommend, will never read it again.

It was heavy and dry. I'm glad I ready it but it wasn't amazing.

Orwell vision of the future was quiet amazing. The society he built was dark and soul crushing.
the must fascinating concept was the way the party dealt with history and how the controlled the future the past and the present.
But the turns of events was shocking. what Winston thought was freedom inside his own mind and the leap of faith he was grabbing was nothing but manipulation to and an experiment to put him in a state of mind he wasn’t prepared for and then crush him with their method to reshape his mind in a way that serve the party.
You are always watched
All this for power! Power is the power over the mind!

This is such a classic book and its influence in popular culture after 75 years is so vast it's hard to understate its importance. Inspired by Zamyatins We Orwell surpassed it in many ways. The writing is so easy to read and the whole book is gripping. The only section which takes a little effort to read is the book within a book in the 2nd act,but this works well as a literary device so it's fine. There's a great variety of characters which mirrors their variety of skill in doublethink. This is also one of the only books where I've read the appendix with as much veracity as the book itself.
Told in 3 acts they boil down to despair, hope and acceptance, which follow the themes of love as well, those being no feelings of love, deep love, and the loss of that love. There's no happy ending for Winston, but one feels there's still hope, the hope that Winston had until he was broken, though maybe that's just because we haven't been through room 101
