3.5 stars. A Hidden Fire was better than I expected. There were lots of books, libraries, some history, and plenty of sexual tension between the two main characters. I liked the vampire lore. There were vampires who could control the elements. I thought there was just the right amount of humor and I loved the supporting characters, especially Carwyn and Tensin.

A very slow start and if I'm honest an unoriginal story. Nevertheless I did enjoy it. I would gave given this 4 stars but the ending kinda fizzled and I was left thinking 'Oh is that it?'

While most PNR's are like a quick bite from the drive- thru, tasty, but forgotten almost before you've finished. This novel was a sensuous treat - more like an elegant meal at a fine restaurant. One you will remember for a long time.

I loved this book, and Beatrice and Gio, and the world the author has created. I finished this and the second book this week and am looking forward to the third books release in March.

It had such an intriguing premise. And it took until 42% of the book before ANYTHING happened of note. It never did get particularly interesting. Thankfully I got it from the library. But it then did another nosedive for the epilogue where it has zero purpose or resolution of the so called romantic tension.

I can't believe this book has been sitting on my Kindle for months, waiting to be discovered. I went into this book blind, having no idea what it was about, other than being paranormal. I was hooked from the first few pages. The story was told in third person and so well written! There was not one lull or down spot throughout the entire book. I loved, loved Beatrice (B)! She was so witty and smart, but unique from other heroines. She and Gio made the perfect couple, their banter was adorable, but they fit together perfectly. The support cast was amazing, as well. Since it was set in Houston, I was totally smitten! It made reference to so many familiar areas, like River Oaks and Rice.

If you are fan of The Discovery Witches Trilogy, you must read this series!!

There was a small CH and I had to start book 2 right away.

"Love is a single soul inhabiting two bodies."

"Did you just come up with some really academic, smart-sounding rationalization for why you're watching wrestling on pay-per-view? "

This book resonates with me so well because it balances a lot of elements beautifully in a way I havent come across before. Though I read this over ten years after its first publication and setting, I still found the contemporary and academic elements perfectly relatable and familiar. The characters are richly-made and very lovable, and friendship is weighed equally important to the plot and character development as the slow burn romance happening as the plot thickens. I appreciate the journey of characters becoming friends before diving into anything else, and I love how much time they take to get to know each other.

I also think some interesting vampire stereotypes were addressed by the characters (such as dramatic age differences, etc) and I love that those details weren’t overlooked, but rather they were addressed with the other elements of the inevitable torment of falling in love.
