Not my favorite sub-genre but I quite enjoyed the mystery of this. And how helpful the teacher Concordia was and what she did for her charges.

The girls were funny and so sweet they only wanted what was best for their teacher.

The romance comes from Ambrose who not only helps the teacher and gets the girls to safety. But who is determined to solve the mystery surrounding the teacher and her charges to find out why they were fleeing from the ‘orphan school.’
Overall I liked the story and who Ambrose and Concordia became lovers.

I liked the narration the accent was perfect for this book. I very much enjoyed it.

*You don't have to like my review but its 100% my opinion, and I am allowed to have it.*

I have never seen an author use the word "frisson" so many times in one novel. Nevertheless, I love Amanda Quick.

This is a fun Victorian romance. Of course the heroine is strong, independent and has "modern" views Of course, the hero is storng, sexy and wants to protect her. It's a formula, but one I happen to enjoy.

I was already expecting I wasn't going to enjoy this book since it's not my kind of read anymore; I only wanted to finish the series that was long forgotten on my list. I didn't imagine it would be so bad. It wasn't the worst book I ever read but it's not that far behind. The vocabulary was so stiffen and awkward, especially the dialogues. And don't get me started with the awful names! Even the names added more awkwardness to the narrative... It was so painful. The most unoriginal descriptions and even the narration was so... mechanic? I don't even know where to look at. It's a complete mess.
Oh and the "plot twists" (which were not even close to a 'twist') were presented so dryly... I couldn't take it seriously. It became an unintentional comedy for me with all the ridiculous things that happened.
At least now I can put this behind me for good.
