Concordia Glade thought that she had landed the perfect job. She had just been fired from her last position and working as a teacher to four girls at an out of the way castle seemed like a dream come true. Except that the dream was more like a nightmare. The girls kept telling her that their last teacher disappeared mysteriously and Concordia is beginning to think that she's about to do the same. She and the girls concoct a plan to escape. Their pyrotechnics display annoys Ambrose Wells who has come to the castle in order to disrupt the plans of a master criminal. Ambrose uses his Vanza training to help right wrongs and this is a huge speed bump.
Concordia and Ambrose will have to work together to save the girls and maybe even fall in love along the way.

This was a particularly fun, light read. Good characters. The plot just flowed. I really liked it.

I used to enjoy reading AQ's books even if one can fairly expect the basic plotline. Lie by Moonlight somehow didn't engage me, Ambrose kind of felt wooden. And the romance is kept to a minimum but the mystery elements are good even though I kind of wanted a more action packed ending.

Jane Ann Krentz writing as Amanda Quick has a standard premise - an unconventional but spunky heroine gets herself into trouble, but happens upon an equally unconventional hero, who generally has some murky past making him dark and mysterious in addition to (always) being very handsome.

These books may not be terribly original, but they are always fun, romantic, and usually filled with intrigue and excitement as hero and heroine make their way through a convoluted path to the ultimate consummation of their love, and a happily ever future together.

Lie by Moonlight fits the bill perfectly, if you are looking for a fun easy romance novel with likeable characters and just enough mystery to add spice. It's a bonus that all of Quick's heroines are intelligent, capable and independent women, in addition to being beautiful, kind and dedicated to righting some wrong or other.

One of the best romance books I have read in a really long time. The ending even left a happy tearful smile on my face.

This was recommended to me, and I'd decided I ought to know more than nothing about the romance genre, so here we go.

The good:
-I did not at any point want to throw the book across the room.
-There was at least some explanation for why Victorian characters had suspiciously modern attitudes towards sex and gender (and let's face it, traditional Victorian morals are pretty squicky.)
-I was kind of amused at times.

The bad:
-Definitely many *eyeroll* moments
-What, you think there was realistic justification for the suspiciously modern attitudes?
-The mystery plot. Lame.
-The sex. Boring. I suspect this will be a problem in this genre, as so far what I've seen falls into one of two categories: Bad, flowery, euphemistic sex, or bad, flowery, explicit sex. This was somewhere in between.

If I do decide I want to know more about the genre, I suspect I'll collect a list of things that are either "you should really read this to understand what it's all about," or "you might actually kind of like this."

That is one troubling aspect of doing things in a modern, unconventional style, I'm afraid. Granted, it makes for an interesting change. Unfortunately, one cannot always be assured that, when it is all said and done, one will find that one is better off than when things were done the old-fashioned way.

This book fell into my hands by accident, and I am glad to have read this as a light read.

This is a romantic thriller, with a strong female lead and an equally strong male counterpart. The book is set in London during the Victorian era.

If I say anything else, there would be more spoilers, hence, let me stop here right away.

If you are having a gloomy day, this is the book for you.

Entretiene pero en cierto modo no engancha. Ha sido casi como si leyese por leer, sin sentir apenas una ligera conexión con los personajes o la historia.
