Never cried so much from a book in my entire butterflying life. Laughing, crying, so much anticipation! It was a constant roller coaster on my feels. ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️

Point of Retreat is the second book of the Slammed
Series and really enjoyed it. This story starts where book #1 left off and takes a deeper look into the lives of Layken and Will. Just when you think their relationship is steady and on course, situations continue to happen to test their love. This was another easy read and really enjoyed it!

I literally cannot finish this. I made it to chapter 5 before finally giving up. I didn’t like Slammed, but thought that with the change of perspective and with it not being Hoover’s debut novel, it surely couldn’t get worse. God was I wrong.

Will and Lake act like children - which at 19 and 22 they essentially are, but having to grow up like they did, you would think they would have even a touch more maturity than they do. Will’s decision to not tell Lake about his ex being in his college course when it’s clear that she is coming on to him??? I mean come ON. It’s all very middle school.

The slam poetry is also so badly written it made me actually nauseous. Which for a book where that is so central… it’s just embarrassing.

The whole thing had me seeing red tbh.

I love this book almost as much as the first one. It’s the perfect continuation to the previous book!

Lake and Will's relationship takes hit after hit in this book and when we think everything is going to be ok with them again we get blind sided with something else. I can tell you this Colleen really knows how to keep her reader into a story.

I give this book 5 stars and it is among my most highly recommended series. It's one of those series where it gives you so much hope, and makes you think about your own life. These kids have gone through more in their lives than you can even hope to avoid, yet they come out stronger, more connected and mature than they should at their ages.

Love this series!!!! Can’t wait to read the final book soon!

This is the second book in the slammed series and it continues Layken and Will’s story. I loved the addition of Sherry and Kiersten, they were a perfect addition to the series, and is a big reason for the “butterfly” effect. I love the stars in a vase from Layken’s mom; and how she left it for them after she passed. I teared up a lot during this one just like I did with the first one. I enjoyed how this one was told from wheels perspective, and it had the kids and a lot more and it showed more of Kel and Caulder’s relationship. I love how the series has created. Such a wonderful family despite so much loss, with gained friendships and relationships, giving everything that they’ve endured. One of my favorite parts is when Kiersten explained how any word could be used as a cuss word and how they all caught on to it pretty quickly and how adorable it was throughout the entire book.

What was that. In Slammed, Lake was the most immature 18 year old and Will seemed much too mature for her. Moving on to Point of Retreat which is in Will’s point of view, the mature Will is non existent. In Point of Retreat, not only is Will utterly cringy the entire book, he is downright childish. The maturity of both Lake and Will in Point of Retreat shows that neither of them are mature enough to handle raising their brothers. Neither of them have jobs or know anything about money or responsibilities- apparently Will is living off of student loans and Lake has the money her mom left her but really how long is that going to last?

Let’s talk about the most problematic issues in this book.

1. Will and Lake think it is funny that Kel and Caulder literally drew a knife with blood on it and threatened to kill someone.

2. Page 147 - Will’s inner dialogue, ‘l use the authoritative tone I’ve perfected on her. It usually works.’ -you mean the teacher who groomed a student tone? This is disgusting.

3. Page 148 - Again with Will’s inner dialogue, ‘You would think after a year I would have found a way to get through to her or to manipulate her in some way.’ So Colleen are we encouraging manipulating someone you “love?”

4. Will threatening a 12 year old CHILD.

5. Will constantly telling and never asking.

6. Will totally stole Sherry’s proposal and used it on Lake. If a man told me, “I’m not asking you to marry me, I am telling you” I would deck his ass. And here Colleen thought it was cute to write about this twice in the book gross
