I'm not a literary critic, can't judge for its writing quality, and wouldn't claim this was a great intellectually stimulating novel. But it was a great read, I loved figuring things out with Claire, and I could hardly put it down. This was out of my typical genres of sci-fi/fantasy/mystery, and I enjoyed it immensely.

(listened as audiobook)

What's it about?
WWII era nurse travels back in time to mid-18th century Scotland, and ends up wedding a strapping young highlander.

What did I think?
Liked the narration. Good descriptions of things. Long book. Plot pretty meh. Things overly telegraphed. Only listened because got for free from Audible and planning to listen to next books in French.

WARNING BEFORE READING THIS BOOK: there is a lot (of talk) rape, violence, murder and (marital) abuse, if those are triggers!

A lot of worldbuilding and character building in this book, while the main character encounter a lot of problems as she adapts to a historically dangerous time. Time travel is not my cup of tea, but the writer is quite good: despite the unrealistic possibility you actually are more wondering what is going to happen next than that.

I was initially drawn to the main characters, the plot, and the romance in this story. I was looking forward to see the relationship mature, but instead for it felt a bit static and at the surface which made the middle of the book drag for me. 2018 Pop Sugar Reading Challenge: A book you meant to read in 2017 but didn't get to
