Overall this one wasn't my favorite follow-up. I really wanted a lot for Eli because he was one of my favorites from the previous book, and I could not wait to see this one play out. Plus, it has a surprise baby angle, and that's my freaking jam! I loved seeing the tension between Eli and Penny. We got the extra layer because of everything with Pacey, but it took way too long for Pacey and Eli to make up.
Even though I loved the banter in this one, and I loved seeing how these two were going to makeup, I hated how Penny handled it. She knew how Eli felt, and he told he how hard it was for him to open up due to his abandonment issues, but she still just did the whole third-act breakup crap, and it just crashed and burned for me. I wanted more for them. Plus, I'm just tired of the miscommunication and third-act breakups.

Love Eli. Penny is a wreck and needs to go to therapy. There’s pregnant…and then there’s crazy.

i technically got to just before the epilogue but i was painfully trying to finish it. 3 ⭐
now, i really liked the first half! i laughed, found it cute, liked how it went, but then bam it just changed.
first off, i didn't like her brother at all. im all for brothers being protective etc but this one felt seriously controlling, and the funniest thing was that he wanted to make sure she had someone etc and NOT ONCE did he visit or interact with her for a third of the pregnancy???? like??
secondly, i did like penny to start off with, but with the whole ily buisness i got so annoyed. after eli's whole-ass childhood and emotional trauma and struggles and you get annoyed over him not saying it back? not to mention the fact she walked out the house tons, he legit had abandonment issues and she just 'forgot' like cmon.
the third act was painful, and i could not get through that scene where it felt forced for him to say it back.
the only characters i liked were eli, posey, holmes, first half penny and winnie - and let me tell you, wtf was that drama between her and pacey for????? didn't read their book but run girl.
won't be reading the others but may if there's a posey book who knows.

If you do not like the pregnancy trope - this is not the book for you. I know that can be a polarizing one. I for one, don't mind it. But the real reason I struggled was the characters, their dialogue, actions, and overall relationship.

Plot:
Penny goes out for a night with her friend and ends up having a one-night stand with her brother's best friend, a hockey star, named Eli. They have a wild, crazy, amazing night. And then she finds out that she is pregnant.

Eli was working through his baggage throughout the story. But unfortunately, I don't feel like Penny developed or matured at all. She was petty and vindictive at times and had to be constantly reminded that Eli had significant emotional trauma. There are so many things that she does that she her lack of compassion for anyone other than herself. And I get it, pregnancy is HARD, and truly going into it not knowing if the dad will stick around is terrifying. But she was sort of hard to love in some moments. There was funny moments as well but it sort of ruined the book for me.
