3.5 stars, actually? 3.5 to 4?
This was good! Not my fav historical romance out there, but I’m not gonna deny that I was quite invested in our two main characters and some scenes really had me HOOKED. Mainly those taking place during the final third of the book. And don’t even get me started on those hot scenes, WHEW!
However, I felt like the pacing was off at times and some endings just...ended too fast? A few loose ends I was still left wondering about, as well as a few questions about this whole spy thing that didn’t really go anywhere. I actually didn’t even really mind how quick these two were at getting (back) together, even within the span of a few days, but I didn’t believe how fast that years-long conflict just ended. There’s also so much family history that needed to be unfolded and a quick little synopsis within didn’t satisfy me.
And wouldn’t it have been awesome to have gotten more of Alec’s spy history and just had gotten a high-stakes historical spy romance??
Overall, I was a fan of this author’s writing, these characters, would recommend the print over audio, and will definitely be around for this author’s next release!

Typically I would be all about this! But I just found myself bored. Plot seems (so far) to mostly take place in Italy which is a great change of pace. I hope to maybe come back to this one day.

intriguing premise and decent writing style but could have benefited from better editing or a simpler story

I really should've DNF'd this at 40% when I was considering it. Instead I cranked the audiobook up to 3x and finished it.

Okay, where do I even begin? I absolutely loved this book. I will say, it is one of my top favorite historical romances. The pining in this was amazing. It had so much sexual tension. It was everything I didn't know I needed.

I previously read book 3 of this series so wanted to go back to Rogue to Remember. Lottie and Alec grew up under the care of their guardian Sir Alfred. Lottie is his niece and Alec a friend’s son. When Alex confesses his love of Lottie, Alfred wants better for her and bribes Alec to leave. Five years later they are reunited when Alfred falls ill.
What I liked: Childhood friends to lovers was cute. I appreciated how much Alec cared for her.
The details of Italy was a nice change from my usual Regency England setting.
The ending was nice and sets up book two.
What didn’t work for me: I’ve learned from the two books I’ve read, Sullivan is on the mild end of steam. It’s usually late in the book and only one scene. That being said, I think the build-up was a little long. Both characters admit to the reader they love each other but refuse to tell each other.
Alec’s spy duties and the mystery involving a traitor seemed to lack detail.
Who should read it: Friends to lovers/second chance romance fans. If you want a book that’s steamy but not too many open door scenes.

I did like this book, but it seemed to drag. I really was hoping to love this one and thought it had so much potential. However, I just couldn't stand the miscommunication (non-communication) between the characters. I felt like if they would have just told each other how they felt, everything would have been okay. But then again, that probably wouldn't have made for an interesting book. So maybe my complaint isn't that valid. This was my first book by Emily Sullivan, and I really enjoyed her writing style. I loved that this was a friends-to-lovers and second-chance romance. There were so many parts that kept my interest, but again, I hated the communication between the characters. Overall, I did enjoy this one and look forward to continuing the series.

Considering how much I enjoyed the first half of this novel the second half was disappointingly anticlimactic-- I have nothing against a more tame climax and resolution but the progression of the novel just really seemed to be heading towards something a little more climatic considering the elements of spies and informational leaks. Warranted these bits did not take up much of the book, but at the end it became a much bigger deal, to the point where more really should have happened regarding the information leak.
That being said, the book has two of my favorite tropes, childhood love and travel; with the very entertaining and well developed characters. I am not going to lie, I could've done with more of the book focusing on Lottie and Alec traveling and perhaps some actual flashback scenes of their past (there are moments where they do recall the past, but its certainly not in flashback). They were adorable and the writing was overall good, and I will likely be reading more from Sullivan.
