Arcana Rising picks up right after Richter’s attack.
Circe’s counter-attack forces Evie on her own wild path.
1 - She needs to confirm what happened to Selena (The Moon Card) and Jack.
2 - She has to try and find Tess (The World Card). Tess is the only one that can bring them back from the dead.
3 - She has to kill Richter.
4 - She needs to find her grandmother (a Tarasova, who records the events of a game) who is currently in the possession of Aric.
Before she can do this she needs to find out where she is after Circe’s flood and make her way back to the rest of her friends.
We get introduced to new characters as well as a cult.
We also end on another cliffhanger.

3.5 Stars, it was so short! Finished it in one afternoon! This isn't a complete story, so it's hard to review; it goes from one cliffhanger to another. Still really enjoying the story!

"Arcana Rising" setzt genau dort an, wo der letzte Band aufgehört hat: Evie musste zusehen, wie ihre grosse Liebe Jack unter der Lava des Emperors begraben wurde. Aric und Evie werden durch eine Flutwelle von Circe gerettet und verlieren sich dadurch aus den Augen. Zum Glück kann sich Evie aus eigener Kraft retten.
Statt über den Tod von Jack zu trauern, macht sie sich auf die Suche nach ihrer Verbündeten Tess, mit deren Hilfe sie die Zeit zurückdrehen und Jack retten will. Als sie im Lager der Arcana ankommt, muss sie jedoch feststellen, dass Tess denselben Einfall hatte und beim Versuch, so weit in die Vergangenheit zurückzureisen, gestorben ist.
Durch eine Reihe eher unglücklicher Umstände landet Evie schliesslich irgendwann wieder im Schloss von Aric und trifft dort endlich ihre Grossmutter. Die ist aber ganz anders gesinnt, als ich es erwartet hatte, denn statt einer herzlichen alten Frau, handelt es sich bei Evies Grossmutter um eine bösartige Dame, die nur eines im Sinn hat: Dass Evie das Spiel der Arcana gewinnt.
Und als wäre dieser ganze Trubel nicht schon genug, muss Evie sich auch noch ihrer Gefühle gegenüber Aric klar werden. Eigentlich hatte sie sich ja für Jack entschieden, doch nach seinem (vermeintlichen) Tod, steht diese Wahl nicht mehr zur Debatte.
Nach einigen Wochen gibt sie sich dann auch endlich ihren Gefühlen hin und gesteht Aric ihre Liebe. Dabei ahnt sie noch nicht, dass diese Entscheidung fatale Folgen nach sich zieht...
Ich habe das Buch innerhalb eines halben Tages verschlungen. Als Anhänger von Team Aric bin ich voll auf meine Kosten gekommen und ich habe mich irrsinnig gefreut, dass Jack (vorübergehend) aus dem Weg geräumt wurde. Der Leser erfährt - im Gegensatz zu Evie selbst - allerdings relativ früh, das Jack gar nicht tot ist. Diese Enthüllung war wenig überraschend, deshalb war ich froh, dass man davon bereits am Anfang des Buches erfährt. Gleichzeitig hat sich bei mir aber auch das Gefühl eingestellt, dass die Liebe zwischen Aric und Evie nur von kurzer Dauer ist und ich bin mir sicher, dass wir uns im nächsten Band von Aric verabschieden müssen. Gerade dieser Cliffhanger mit der Ankündigung von Evies Schwangerschaft am Ende des Buches hat diese Vermutung meinerseits noch einmal verstärkt. Aber ich hoffe natürlich bis zuletzt, dass ich mich irre! Jack ist zwar ein liebenswerter Charakter, aber Aric hat es nach all der Zeit verdient, endlich sein Glück mit Evie zu finden!
Der Cliffhanger wieder besonders fies und ich kann es kaum erwarten, bis endlich der nächste (und letzte?) Band im Frühling 2017 erscheint. Kresley Coles Schreibstil war wie immer toll: Kurze und direkte Sätze, die perfekt zum Geschehen passen. Dafür gibts von mir wieder 5 von 5 Sternen! ♥

This book was amazing. So happy that it was released on audio. The Arcana Chronicles is by far the best YA series EVER. I cannot wait for the next book.

So...HOW AM I SUPPOSED TO WAIT FOR ANOTHER YEAR?
*clears throat*
This will be a hard review to write, the third in a row after "Unknown" and "Nevernight", and in this one I actually can't say anything of the plot because it will spoil everything!
If you have read the novella "Day Zero", which was published in the summer, then you'll get the idea of how some characters actually feel and act in this book. Following the events of "Dead of the Winter" Evie will have to gather allies in order to fight the Emperor. This is the only tibit I'll give you of the plot.
What I really liked from this book was the introduction of the new Arcana as also the mention of the Minor Arcana. I didn't know that the other cards will also play a part in this destroyed world, not to mention that the GODS who actually created this game, did it because they were bored (apparently).
The whole book felt actually a deja vu to me, like I was watching 2012 unravel before me as Evie fights her way and at some point comes into some hurtful desicions.
Two things are sure in this book: your heart will be torn into million pieces and there is also a cliffhanger! So while I recommend this book, read at your own choice. ;)

Can we just let the Cajun just die already? He's the worst! Obviously Death is a better choice. And that ending.. what is even happening in this story??

DNF at almost 50%. I just couldn’t read about this utterly annoying love triangle anymore.
