The art is pretty, but the story is kinda hard to follow. Still good, though.

This just felt very rushed. I couldn't real relate to the characters and the pacing of the story was not good either. I also was not a fan of the art style.

Really enjoyed the artwork and story line. Altho the plot is way simpler then it would’ve been on an actually novel as a prequel for the Shades of Magic I still enjoyed it quiet a lot and will pick up the rest of the series.

I was a tad confused, but the artwork is LIT. I understand that this is a comic series, but I didn't like the open ending. I'm leaving off an opinion/rating until I buy the full graphic novel with #1-#4.

3.5/5. I was so excited to read this prequel revealing more backstory about Maxim Maresh as a prince (a steel prince at that) before he becomes King of Red London. I really enjoyed the story and dialogue, which oozed with Victoria's wonderful prose and craft. However, I was disappointed in the art style. It was hard for me to tell which characters were which since many of them look and dress similarly. Also, the fight scenes were very confusing and I found going from panel to panel so choppy that I actually skipped to the end to see if I was supposed to be reading this backward!! I used to read a lot of manga, so I'm used to very intricate but slowed down scenes in comic book form. I love the Shades of Magic world, so I'll likely be picking up the other volumes, but I still wish they'd used a different artist and slowed down the pacing of each panel.

Finally managed to start with Steel Prince, the prequel to the Shades of Magic series, which is on my list of all time favourite fantasy books. In the Steel Prince volume 1, we get a first view of Prince Maxim’s character... and also the beginning of one of his adventures.
Looking forward to the rest of it.

Jag måste säga att jag va lite förvirrad av konceptet först, lite väl mycket hoppande. Men som vanligt, så kommer dessa karaktärer och världen och gör det bästa av det!
