What an absurd, weird, lit fic, dystopian, sci-fi, heartbreaking story collection. Literally so good - loved it all.

I was going to list my favorites of the short stories but then I just listed almost all of them. Genuinely so good.

Bizarre, tragic, heartwarming. Each of these short stories filled the grody little weird hole in me. There were a few that fell short- maybe ended too abruptly, like the story about Secret Santa. But most if not all possessed this pitiful kernel of humanness- that ability to be wrong and know it and to want and need and do illogical things that make sense. I really enjoyed reading these strange stories and I’ll be thinking about them for a while.

I loved this ! Beautifully absurd, and really easy to sink into.
I enjoyed how it seemed that some of the stories were just crumbs of ideas that had been fleshed into a few pages, whilst others had been more fully developed. A great range of themes and genres

The stories felt original and interesting to me, and the continued themes of life in homes was really interesting to me and I think I will be exploring this some more.

Out There - 4 hits a little too close to home with dating in the Bay Area, the blots seem to be a little like more interesting sales bros, lol
The Last woman on Earth - 5 Such a short story, I like how it mimics the lifespan of the woman, I also like the message, despite her being the last woman she has no name, she is performing for men and she changes her talk show to cater to the various emotions of men.
Heart Seeks Brain - 4 so disturbing! Loved it though it really does show the fucked up ways we view bodies and sexuality in this world!
The Void Wife - 2 not really impactful
Shelter - 1 I didn’t like this story, sometime short stories have too much symbolism and this was one of those, the whole time I just wasn’t enjoying it and I wanted it to be over.
The Head in the Floor - 3 I don’t have much to say about this one. Definitely interesting imagery.
Tahoe - 3 just weird but strangely it does sound like a bro telling a story about their hayday
The Bone Ward - 4 this was good and the men were so fucked up, it’s so sad that to get the approval of men women will hurt each other or themselves.
Doe Eyes - 3 just strange
The House’s Beating Heart - 3
A scale model of gull point - 3.5 good metaphor about art, how the inspiration comes from tragedy, she spent so long constructing it and then someone comes in and steps on it and completely ignore what you worked so hard on
Dating a somnambulist -4 Every night we bring something new to bed!
Moist house - 4 I love this metaphor of the house as a woman, really good symbolism
Turkey Ramble - 5 I will hurt myself before you can to show you how much I love you, beautiful story about generational trauma.
Big Sur - 4 a great conclusion bringing it back to the blots and then the compassion of women
