What to believe? At least the title prepares you for the many, many lies to come.

I still don't know quite what to think about this book, or even what genre to classify it in. One major plot point makes it seem like fantasy, but Micah is a liar can we even believe that part was true?
Knowing that she admitted to being a liar from the beginning I tried to catch her in her lies, but you never really knew, especially concerning the night of the murder. By the end she admits a few things that if true could change the entire story. So I really know just as much as I did before reading it, which is basically nothing!

This book had me going the whole time. I kep thinking I figured things out then she'd tell me she was a liar. What? What just happened. Read it and tell me what you think happened.

very intriguing and (perhaps?) ultimately frustrating.
more review after book club!

so...this made an excellent book club choice. kelli loved it. kevin hated it. most of the rest of us were somewhere in between, trying to figure out what was a lie and what was the truth. in the end, i agreed with kelli: that micah is not a werewolf, but just insane, in a mental institution after killing her teacher's family.

I read this book years ago and hated with such a passion that I considered maiming it or selling it like the Dibbuk Box, while it awaited the decision of it's fate in its plastic prison drawer, buried under the forgotten toys of my childhood.
There are plenty of books I hate with fiery passion that I talk about way more than I talk about this book. However, this was the first book to piss me off so entirely that I now keep it on my bookshelves among all of my other books (that I actually like) and treat it like some sort of prize, like a spooky crone with her beloved taxidermy cat, or a hunter with its dead deer head above his fireplace.

A werewolf book disguised as contemporary. Amazing.
There's so much more I could say, but I'll end on: I'm generously giving this book one star because goodreads doesn't offer negative stars.

:) read this book :) please :) go ahead :)

I have read Justine Larbalestier books in the past, and have enjoyed them. She knows how to do humor and fantasy very well. I was interested in this book because I thought that she was finally branching out into realistic fiction. Boy, was I wrong. Since many have already stated this so-called "spoiler" in previous reviews I have no inhibitions in stating...

The main character is a werewolf.

So, what went from being a potentially marvelous tale about a compulsive liar and how she deals with her boyfriend's death, became yet another Larbalestier drama about the supernatural and its effects on her character's lives. The prose was broken, sloppy, and just plain terrible. And it didn't even have any humor to make it tolerable.

Normally it takes me a day, three tops. This one took me three weeks to finish, mainly because I didn't want to pick up this book again. It was only my resolution to never leave a book unfinished again that pulled me through.

In short, for those of you who are thinking about reading this book, don't. It's simply not worth the time, energy, or the headache.
