I am so grateful to all of the contributors of this graphic novel for sharing stories from their culture with the wider world! Some stories were charming, some sad; some had clear messages while others didn’t. I enjoyed the diversity in stories and art styles, and the info about the contributors at the end was wonderful to have! However, this graphic novel did help me realize that I prefer a continuous story to a collection.

The stories come with authenticity, which is nice, and the trickster tales are entertaining. The use of a variety of authors and illustrators reinforces the idea that each tale comes from a different place. This was a difficult book to sit down and read straight through. This might be more readable if taken in shorter doses.

This was due back to the library so I didn't finish it, but I can't say I'm too heart-broken about that. As is true with any anthology, the stories vary widely in quality and tone. I liked the art on most but it was hard to tell how much original spin the authors were putting on the traditional tales.

I truly believe graphic novel anthologies aren't for me. I read this for class, feel a little odd about a non-Native storyteller editing this Native anthology, but perhaps his heart was in the right place? Some of the art is GORGEOUS and some not to my taste. Some good stories but some not.

An anthology of trickster tales (a trickster is a crafty creature with chaotic intentions) from different Native American tribes.

Graphic collection of a variety of Native American trickster myths, using the words of authentic sources and a variety of artists. Clever, sly, fucked up, surprising, expected, and ever-so-human: this is a genre of storytelling that never ceases to delight and entrance me.
