Companion Piece was a very interesting read, there was plenty going on with several strands tying together to create a bigger story, I found it quite engaging. I particularly enjoyed the second part, 'Curlew', the twins were my favourite characters. At first, I wasn't too sure about them but the more you see of them, the more you like them.
Their relationship with Sandy was intriguing, you never quite knew what they truly wanted from her but you also got the idea they didn't really know what they wanted from themselves either. Their banter with her was hilarious, especially as it was so one-sided. I enjoyed the humour throughout, a lot of it was relatable and it just felt effortless. Ali Smith definitely excels at puns and wordplay. I liked the writing style, it flowed really well and really suited the story well. I can't imagine this same story being told in a different style, it just wouldn't work. This was my introduction to Ali Smith as an author and it's safe to say I'm a fan. I can't wait to read more of her work, especially the seasonal quartet.
