Silver Silence by Nalini Singh

Stopped right at the “has never had sex” - I really hate first time romance novels so it’s just not for me.

To be fair to the book, this was the first I picked up in the series which was likely also a mistake. I had decent interest in the psy mechanics and everything but couldn’t get invested enough to continue.

Silver Silence has all the things I love about the Psy-Changeling series – a strong female lead, mystery and suspense, all the feels and hotness.

Silver fucking Merchant totally got to me in Silver Silence! And she sure got to a certain bear as well. Every single feel there is was invested in Valentin’s and Silver’s story, and I loved how the overall story-arch and plot moved forward. If you’ve visited me before, you know I’m a huge Nalini Singh fan, and that was definitely cemented with Silver Silence. All the awesomeness.

Silver was a character I had met several times in the prior Psy-Changeling books, as she was Kaleb’s assistant. She always seemed to be so distant and cold I couldn’t help but being extremely curious about her. Silver Silence touched on the reasons why the Psy had decided that silence was the only solution in the past, and Silver had to fight for her survival more than once over the span of the story.

Since the fall of silence, the psy-changeling series has taken a slightly different direction, because this means that some characters can evolve differently than they could in the past. Silver Silence touches on both the past and possible paths for the future, and the excitement, hotness, humor, danger and suspense was almost too much for me at times.

Singh is an expert at writing complex characters, and somehow, I could even understand the enemy when I realized the reasoning behind their actions. Silver Silence is one of the highlights of my 2017 reads, and as always, I can’t wait to delve back into this amazing universe. Written in third person point of view, but a close perspective, and in past tense, I got to know both Silver and Valentin very well… as well as some mysterious characters that also had some chapters from their point of view.

After second read: yeah, still loved this just as much! There are so many intricate relationships that are still so very important to the overall story arc and the plot.

As always, I really liked it! Easy 4 stars +1 for the audiobook.
I read and listened to this book during a weekend trip. The audiobook was amazing.

This is the story of Valentin, alpha bear-changeling, and Silver, head of the Psy-Merchant family. I liked the romance of the couple but I loved the introduction of a new changeling clan and the overall political development of the world more. Will definitely pick up the next book in the series.[b:Ocean Light|36147502|Ocean Light (Psy-Changeling Trinity, #2; Psy-Changeling, #17)|Nalini Singh|https://images.gr-assets.com/books/1508961467s/36147502.jpg|57751289]

You can read this book without reading the Psy-Changeling Series first. BUT... I would recommend reading the other 15 books first. There are so many characters from the series that you do not know and get a better understanding for, if you read the first books. Besides that, I would imagine, that the political aspects of this world would be confusing without the information the other books give you.

I would recommend this book and the others in the series to anyone who wants to read a good paranormal / urban fantasy. I don't understand why it's not more popular.

This was a very different feel to a PC book! It was very much an opposites attract book but I got stuck at the fact that there as a storyline that sort of disappeared for like 200 pages and then reappeared... It was weird. I loved Valentin - he is a giant, squishy sweetie from page one and less exactly no chill about Silver. Silver F*cking Mercant is a badass lady in literally any moment of her life and I really enjoyed watching her be wildly intense and consciously choose to start to experience emotion.

Ena Mercant is also a badass grandma and I love it.

For the record if you haven't read PC you could I guess start here -it might be weird but you could.

Emotional Rollercoaster that you don't mind riding

I had a long review written out, but it got dumped. To try to rewrite it, if mess it up, so let's hope I can do half as well in this next attempt.

I think this is a great start to the trinity. There were a couple things left open that make me just as ready for the next book as I was this one!!

I really loved this book. I love the characters so much. The Teddy bear-esque Valentin, and the level headed, cool Silver. Give it a chance, you'll probably enjoy it too.

Bears...

Best book in the Nalini Singh series so far and that bar was already at a 10/10.
Fell hopelessly in love with all the characters but especially the bears.

I know what you're thinking, how could she possibly top the big cats and the wolves, but trust me she does. I laughed so hard at the antics of the lead character and his bear family. It was such an enjoyable story with strong characters, heartbreak and love.

Such an engaging read, I couldn't put the book down until it was done.

Bears though... :)
