I read this series ages ago and I quite enjoyed it. Now that i'm old(er) I still somewhat enjoyed this but many parts really irk me. The constant slut shaming is awful, our heroine is so negative towards Aphrodite just because she doesn't like her and caught in a compromising position
Spoilergiving a BJ in a hallway
in the last book. Slut, ho bitch, stank slut, hag, etc are all used way too much. Also, the use of 'retard' is so unnecessary, ignorant, and disgusting. Damien is nothing more than the token gay and I swear he cannot be mentioned without gay also being brought up - he smiles gay, look gayer than usual, gay this, gay that, our gay friend. Come on, make him gay not a stereotype.

The romance is just laughable at best. Our slut shaming queen Zoey is caught between three boys who are sOo in love with her yet we really don't see that many interactions between them. I don't like Heath, he's literally described as "a typical teenage Okie boy, which tended to mean narrow minded homophobe." hard pass on the homophobia. Loren is literally a creep who should not be around children/teenagers. Erik is just not really around much so I'm indifferent.

Another thing I can't stand, 'brown pop'. UGH. It's constant. We get it, she likes brown pop but can we not constantly use the words brown pop. Just get yourself a damn drink, I don't care what it is. It doesn't make you quirky to constantly need or think about damn brown pop.

I'm giving it 2 stars instead of 1 because I like the idea behind it and young me really enjoyed it.

Would I recommend this? No.
Will I continue to reread the series because i'm a masochist? Probably.

Zoey Redbird is well on her path to vampyre-hood, and she's taking a rather strange, accelerated route to get there. Betrayed focuses on her relationships: with her friends, with her various potential boyfriends (and being a special snowflake vampire vampyre, there are a few), and with her mentor, Neferet.

Somehow despite my slight annoyances with book 1 (which i I did still enjoy), I could not wait to dive into book 2. It went very fast, and the story was interesting. Now I can't wait to read book 3—these books are like crack!

I loved this book. It was really exciting and fast paced with a new development every time you stopped to take a breath. The romance in this book is unbelievable. It made me really pumped to read the next book at the end of the novel.

Gotta say Zoey Redbird is a vampire slut. Can't hide the fact she has two boyfriends, oh no she couldn't hide it like everyone else! So Heath and Erik have to share. Which annoys me. SO. DAMN . MUCH. Mostly because they seem such decent guys and she collects them when really they don't deserve the treatment. Also she doesn't seem that interested in Erik, in fact everyone else seems much more into him than she is!It's almost as if she's going out with him because she can! Then the Loren element is a bit creepy I found but ermm he's a teacher and it's just a bit ......no, I don't like it.

Anyhoo I liked that there's something going on which is different, it sets it apart from other YA books. However the Cast Collective don't need to push it with relating everything to comtempory people or things, we get your point without it, promise. We also get it's a teen book but it is doing well on it's own without this extra stuff.

I really did feel for the Stevie Rae thing, not wanting to give anything away but everything to do with her is good and I felt everything I was meant to. Which was good. But then we move onto Zoey's obsession with her "brown pop" gah. GAH I SAY! Why not her coke? Is this sue-ing material? Other people seem to cope! GAH ONCE AGAIN. It symbolises what I don't like about this book, Zoey is a teenager therefore she has to like unhealthy things, be a typical teenager and be perfectly normal because she is so sub-normal all the other time. However it's "brown pop" so she's also not annoying anyone because she would never smoke pot or have sex like other teenagers BECAUSE THAT WOULD BE SOOOOO STUPID! And yet she can have every guy she likes nooow because she's awesome vampire woman!

I SAY AWESOME VAMPIRE WOMAN CANNOT DO WHAT SHE LIKES!

But apart from that I liked the book.

The first chapter bothered me and I skipped trough most of it since it was full of explanations about what happend in the previous book.

What I really liked about Betrayed is Zoeys attitude. She's compassionate and forgiving and even though everyone's telling her Aphrodite is evil/bad she listens to her gut and tries to be a good person. I really appreciate that.

Got a little annoyed with the constant referral to events that happened in the last book - don't most authors go on the assumption that people are wise enough to begin a series from the beginning?

Anyway, besides that I did quite enjoy this book, the teenage lingo was a bit too much at times but overall it was quite an exciting story. Bit predictable perhaps?

I could tell right from the beginning of the book that Neferet would turn out to be the 'baddie', and if Zoey's intution has become so powerful I'm suprised she didn't realise sooner than she did.

I'm onto the next book already now but I can't help thinking that I'm just reading the series because I've started it, not because I'm really into it that much!
