This was a calm book, one that relaxed me greatly before falling asleep. This was my first Thich Nhat Hanh book, and it was as informative as it was gentle. I catch myself now implementing his simple breathing meditation throughout simple acts during the day such as biking to work, assisting a patron, and cooking. It pulls me forward and into my body and helps me be more present.

He certainly achieved his goal with this one!

An extremely well written introduction to the teachings that the Buddha has laid out.

I was gifted this book a couple of years ago by my cousin who was dying of cancer. She said this book triggered a complete change in her life, and hoped it would for me too. Unfortunately, I never read it while she was alive, but finally did a little while after she passed. Initially, I regret not reading it immediately and felt bad that I may have let her down. Upon finishing, I've started to make peace with not only my regret, but with her passing,  with life and death in general, and honestly with the whole world.

This book gave me quite a lot to think about...and not think about. I liked most of the concepts and will definitely be using many of [a:Thich Nhat Hanh's|9074|Thich Nhat Hanh|https://images.gr-assets.com/authors/1428785775p2/9074.jpg] tactics to stay more in the now. However, I was not a huge fan of the writing style. Go figure he's a monk and the writing style reminded me of a drawn out lecture. Other than that I would recommend it.

Loved the stories at the end of this book, as well as some of the specific practices it suggests. Books by this author are all the same in some ways, but also totally different; each one I read offers its own unique takeaways.

One good one here is this meditation/breathing poem:

In/out
Deep/slow
Calm/ease
Smile/release
