Don’t be fooled by this fun cover and YA storyline- this is a hit-you-in-the-feels kind of book.

First we have a girl- she’s cynical after the divorce of her parents. Then we have a guy- he’s a “yes” man open to life and love. You can already guess what happens when they are paired for a dance competition.

What you can’t guess are all the little intricacies throughout this story. While the main plot intentionally follows quintessential romance tropes, we also explore cynicism, hurt, fear, loss, and the value of living in the moment. This books reads very YA (young adult), but the message is for everyone. Perfect when paired with an early morning with coffee in bed- can’t get cozier than that. 4 ⭐️

Wow. This was one of those books that i picked up on a whim wanting something light to pick up after the Vanishing Half (lol it was not light)and was completely taken by surprise. A beautiful story about love loss and heartbreak, in an almost magical realism narrative that winks at the reader about all our favourite rom com tropes and then (sort of) tosses them out the window. Nicola Yoon writes in an incredibly beautiful yet sad way and her characters are the precise embodiment of that

3.5 - good but nothing special, probably lost half a point because I read it in french and therefore it didn’t feel as natural

Always been a huge fan of Nicola Yoon, especially her writing style. This book has all the things you would expect from the author, but honestly for me the story wasn't the best. Not bad in terms of execution of the plot, but I guess I just didn't like the idea itself. It's a matter of personal taste. But the characters were really memorable, which is a huge plus. Definitely a one time read

So beautiful. I didn’t “enjoy” reading this because it brought up a lot of feelings for me, but such a good read. So many important life lessons and an incredible story.

Tropes
- YA romcom
- parents divorce
- losing hope in love and regaining it back
- healing from loss
- a touch of fantasy
- training for a dance comptetition
- forgiveness

Like a lot of times I didn't read about the book buying it and even before reading it. And it took my by surprise, but in a good way! This YA romcom about loss and forgiving was beautiful. I loved reading it and maybe I even needed to read it at this point in my life. Evie is traumatized by her parents divorce and can't seem to accept it. She has all this rage and sadness within her. Thanks to her family and friends she's slowly accepting all of it and change for the better.
