This was an absolute winner for me in terms of realistic horror. I am a sucker for the Lord of the Flies-esque stories where people away from society go feral against each other, and King does it so well. I am a pretty prolific reader, and I think I'd have to say that Jim Rennie is one of the most diabolical villains I've met. The amount of sway that evil man had was terrifying. As someone who came into my own political during the Bush/Cheney regime of terror, I saw those parallels pretty clearly.

This book was massive, but it kept my full attention the entire time. I was on edge with every new, horrible thing happening in that godforsaken town. Whew! I am taking a small break from King to read a few romance holds that came in, but I am looking forward to continuing my King read-a-thon.

It took me forever to finish because I hate finishing things but this was a really great book! I'm reading all of Stephen King's stuff before I read The Dark Tower series again because I love seeing all the different connections between the books~ I didn't notice much in this one other than the appearance of the number 19 a few times, though. (Holy snood, it's the 19th today!)

I definitely recommend reading this but if you're at all squeamish or triggered by pretty much anything maybe give it a pass :') It's the same warning for most of King's books, though, really.

On to the next one!

All things serve the beam...

I'm a huge Stephen King fan. His writing draws you in with all 5 senses. The journey is always fantastic, but the destination, once reached, sometimes leaves a bit to be desired - as in this case. Still a worthy read, however. 3.5 stars.

One of the most unsatisfying solutions to a main plot-driving mystery I’ve ever encountered.

According to Goodreads, I am normally a "chick-lit" fan. Stephen King hasn't been on my list since high school, but OH MY! I couldn't put down "Under the Dome" and am now eager to check out some of his other books. I think I assumed King books didn't have much depth, just suspense, but Dome was pretty satisfying to the side of me that seeks meaning as well as the side that enjoys a well-told story.

You can read the book description for yourself, I'll just say it's 1000+ pages that don't feel like 1000+ and several nights I waged a battle between my desperation to devour JUST ONE MORE CHAPTER and my rational working self that knew the alarm was only a few hours away.
