okayyy

Groupies sets out to redefine what it means to be a groupie. Groupies typically have a dirty or elusive connotation and I admire Sarah Priscus’ new take on groupiedom. She combines Almost Famous and Daisy Jones and the Six in this inside look at rock and roll groupies.

I love the 70s music scene, so that was instantly appealing. It was an entertaining journey to experience as Faun slowly became entrenched in that world, but it dragged on a bit and became a somewhat meandering drugged out haze in the middle of the novel. The dialogue also tended to border on cheesy and unrealistic. The last quarter of the novel really stepped up the story, though. There was a fun twist and some interesting growth we got to experience with Faun.

I was so happy to receive an ARC of this book through a Goodreads giveaway!

Overall: a fun, enjoyable read, but lacking in some areas.

i was lucky enough to get my hands on an ARC of this debut and i do not regret it one bit!! groupies was a lot of fun. it was dangerous and wild, but all too real (i think, as someone who wasn’t alive to witness the sex drugs and rock and roll wave of the 70s).

our main character faun is deeply unlikeable and makes terrible choices, which is not a trope for everyone but definitely works for me. much of this story is a great character study of everyone surrounding faun, from a-list celebrities with horrifying lifestyles, to the parade of other groupies all looking for acceptance by giving away all they’ve got to people who don’t really give a shit.

while the writing fell a bit short early on and we were introduced to too much too quick, i breezed right through the second half of this book like it fuelled my lungs.

needless to say i am obsessed and i’m going to make this book everyone’s problem when it officially releases
