Mae Pierce does it again! The Power of Blood Duet was one of my favorite reads of last year, so to say I was excited for this book would be an understatement!
In āThe Reluctant Demonā we pick up immediately where we left off, with Cove and Krex being introduced to one another. One the bond is recognized, Cove and Krex are thrust into an inter-world (inter-species?) relationship. Their love story is not easy, and there are multiple hurdles that they have to work through. Communication is the biggest struggle they face between themselves, and it was so refreshing to read of main characters who acknowledge their shortcomings and make real efforts to better communicate.
Relationship aside, it was fun being back in Melbak for a bit! Seeing bits and pieces of the previous characters is always a delight, and I enjoyed learning more about what theyāve been up to.
āThe Reluctant Demonā is a great story for those who enjoy the world that has been set up in the previous duet. I would highly recommend starting there so that you can truly learn about how strong Cove is, as well as better appreciate how she makes Krex work to win her back.

Yet again Mae Pierce proves that she excels at writing flawed characters with incredible growth arcs and good grovel!
Having met Cove in the Power of Blood duet, it was awesome to get to see her journey as well as a better glimpse at the b*da** Legion that she is!
Krexeldess is the perfect pair to Cove in this enemies to lovers story! With his own issues to overcome and that touch of absolute mouth watering spice we all needed!

This was a wonderful, fast paced novella with strong characters. I just love the characters! Cove is such a strong FMC. She knows what she wants and wonāt accept anything less. And Krex, what a grumpy cinnamon roll! Loved this book.Ā

Unbeknownst to Cove, there are dangers to her kind in Hell, and Krex is working to keep her protected. The Reluctant Demon was a quick and enjoyable read that moved along at a good pace; I enjoyed Cove and Krex's story, which had just the right amount of spice. I am giving a rating of 4 / 5 Stars.Ā
