I loved the first Mickey Haller book and the movie adaptation. When I first read The Lincoln Lawyer, I immediately went online and ordered the next three books in the series. But somehow I didn't get round to reading then until now.
The Brass Verdict is a very well-written fast-paced thriller. I don't remember the last time I finished a legal thriller in one day...probably sometime in 2005 when I first started reading John Grisham! But back to Connelly, I absolutely loved reading this book, perhaps even more than the first book.

You know what is better to read a book by one of your favourite authors with one of your favourite characters? Is to read a book where two of your favourite characters meet and team up. It is absolutely delightful! And that's how this book was. Mickey Haller meets Harry Bosch.

Another thing that I've realized while reading this book is that these guys are very masculine and by that I mean all the positive aspects of what being masculine means. They are alpha dogs, they are extremely intelligent. They see the next pieces in the puzzle and they fall into place from a mile. Like some of the best chess players they anticipate and successfully act on those instincts.

In the same time they are kind and human and honest and vulnerable and they want to do good.

Michael Connelly does an excellent job in portraying these men's thoughts and inner dialog. Is like having a sneak peak in the world and mind of their inner self allowing us to see them as they truly are. Bare bones, facades and masks apart.

I enjoyed this book. It wasn't as good The Lincoln Lawyer but I would highly recommend it.

2nd read by audio in 2024

I read one book with Mickey as the main character and loved it then decided I HAD to go back to the beginning of the series and REALLY get to know him. :-) I'm very glad that I did. This was a great book and an even better audiobook, which is how I listened to the last few chapters since I've been trying to stop looking at electronics after 9PM and that was about the only time I could stop and read the e-book. Anyway, enough about me....the book sucked me in with a good plot, a character or two that I've come to like a lot and it wasn't something I figured out, so I WANTED to keep reading/listening until the very last second! Can't wait to ready MH #3 and finish HB #1!
